the biggest reason I sold my father's jeep and didn't keep it for my daughters
they REALLY wanted it
Funny story about a jeep.
When I was 16 I had an S10 (Chevy mini pickup). I stopped to warn people of a downed tree in a storm and my truck got hit and totalled.
My dad's buddy's son had a jeep for sale so dad and I went to test drive it. As it turned out, this jeep was nuts! It had a small block Chevy V8 with dual four barrel carburetors, headers, and side pipes (no real mufflers). From the sound of it, it also had a competition camshaft.
So dad and I get in, dad want to drive first. This thing was so light and had so much power that it was barely possible to start out without spinning the tires when releasing the clutch in first gear. So dad slings some gravel as we pull out of the driveway. He shifts to second, then third, then as we were approaching a stop sign dad let off the gas and I'm not kidding, flames came out of the side pipes.
Dad drives a little further then pulls into a store and we switch. Sixteen year old me REALLY wanted this jeep but I knew dad would be worried so I drove back as gingerly as possible. I pull in to the drive where we started and shut the jeep off. Dad looks at me and says "Son, you aren't buying this jeep".
