Not saying I would do it at that place and time, but why would it not be the time or place?  When would be a good time?  It's not like it was some kind of solemn event or something....

Because it's a conference event.  Full stop.

You do that kind of thing on a podcast, or a video clip posted to Instagram.

You and I may not take SEC Media Days seriously, but the SEC front office does, and so do the school officials who coordinate with them.

Yup.  If you're gonna bother doing it, you should do it right.

Otherwise you look like a clownshow.

did you expect the SEC to change to a classy organization because Texas joined?

Yeah, it was hit or miss, and you can tell he wasn't sure whether it was a roast or not, and it's hard to make jokes that aren't mainstream, and honestly how mainstream is any sports story that isn't the NFL?

The Caitlyn Clark one you pointed out, the way SGA seemingly constantly draws fouls, Shohei's interpreter.  I think they were all good jokes, but it was like only 50% of the room ever got it

He actually redid that joke about Travis Hunter in memory of Norm.

Norm actually tried to do a sports type Daily Show, and I love Norm, but it just didn't work.  Sports are so compartmentalized, that it's hard to appeal to the room.  And ultimately, it's sort of hard to satirize, because ultimately who cares?  You can get a lot of material from satirizing the news, because everyone is aware, and it works because it matters.  If Connor Stallions is guilty of the absolute most he's accused of, it just means Michigan cheated at a game, it's not actually serious at all.  When the chess guy was accused of sticking a buzzer up his ass, we laughed because, it's chess, who cares, and it involved his asshole.  We act like cheating in sports we care about is more serious, just because we care, but it's not.  Barry Bonds juiced up is just a dude with a buzzer up his ass
