If there were some functional value in going with higher trim levels then I could be onboard.  For example, if max towing package and my optimal towing engine (3.5L ecoboost in this case) were only available in higher trim levels, then that's where I would lean.

But I actually prefer cloth seats over leather in my climate, I have no need of sunroofs or automatic retractable running boards, and I view pretty much all of the other luxuries and creature comforts as unnecessary gadgets that are inevitably going to fail too early and in most cases I'm better off without them.

I realize my utilitarian approach to automobiles isn't necessarily the standard, but it works great for me, and if I were left to my own devices, that's what I'd be purchasing.  It's not so much about saving money, as it is just not wanting or needing the unnecessary frills.

I think every vehicle model would sell well with the combo of max power/HP/performance + analog/manual everything.  That's a good % of the population, imo.

Holy cow that Tesla Model Y is so ugly.  It makes the ugly humpy Euro SUVs look like a 1978 Volvo Estate Wagon by comparison.

Don't care if it last the longest with the fewest problems at a reasonable price

And yet... The redesigned Model Y is light years ahead of the original Model Y...

The original Model 3 looked like a platypus. The original Model Y looked like a fat platypus.

The new one is at least better than that.

I'd much prefer the R2 though.

I really like the looks of the R2-- except for the front of it.  That "grill" and headlight combo is really weird-looking to me.  But the rest of the body is really nice.

Is that a 4Runner EV?  I had no idea such a thing existed.

We've been spending a lot of extra money to avoid "made in China" labels.

No, they're comparing against the 4Runner ICEV as there is some thought that the R2 is a 4Runner competitor.

It's a pretty good video if you have the time [and interest].

BTW when Rivian first became popular, the headlights just looked "weird" to me. Being here in Orange County (where there are LOTS of EVs and where Rivian is HQ'd) I see them all over the place, and I've gotten used to it. It no longer puts me off--and I'd consider buying one.

FWIW, the Cybertruck still looks stupid. I don't think it'll be possible to get used to that hideous thing.

Well, none of 'em can tow 12,000 pounds over 300 miles so they're of no use to me either way. ;)

Well, as someone who probably spends way too much time thinking about things that are of no use to me, I can't say that's a reason not to watch...

ya'll know I have the time.............

And I can say with some certainty that you don't have the interest :57:
