utee- you think Sark could actually get fired after only one year? how long will Texas keep him, do you think? if he doesn't turn it around next year- you think they pull the plug after only 2 years?
It's hard to imagine pulling the plug after only two years.

But, as someone around here likes to point out, for really good coaches, year 2 is pretty much where you know you have one, or not.

I never wanted him to begin with so I'd be fine with firing him today.  Or three weeks ago.

I always thought Herman should have gotten one more year.  But I wasn't absolutely opposed to firing him...if you had a better option than Sark

yeah- I never got that. Like I get firing Herman- but firing him for Sark? WTF? Herman was clearly a better coach than Sark. At least take a flier on an up and comer- makes zero sense to just hire a retread that is clearly inferior to the guy you just fired. Like....wtf.

How much dead money is being paid on the 40 Acres? At some point they gotta keep Sark until that dead money charge cooks down.

money will never be an issue on the 40 acres

one big money alum could wipe away the dead money debt by writing a check tomorrow

I don't think Texas has a HC problem, they have a Texas problem.  The atmosphere there is obviously toxic.  Whatever combination of the boosters/expectations/reactions/etc is, it's not what I'd label "support."

A HC has to win in spite of it all.  What sense does that make?

that's a staple of modern passing offenses- every fricken team runs pick play crossing routes that never get called. OSU is the king of this.
Pick's are NOT illegal. Each player is entitled to a spot on the field. As long as the receiver does NOT intentionally block the defender, it is a legal play.

The atmosphere?  You mean expectations based on long history of doing well?  What would be the alternative, Vandy?

Texas is not Vandy, nor should it be.  Texas has recruited well of late, they have talented players, they have lost five in a row.  I think the "atmosphere" should be toxic, whatever that means.

I think it was a case of "FIRE THAT MFer! WE'LL FIND SOMEONE ELSE." And then picking Sark when Urby said nah. That first part is a pretty common feeling, as we know.

Looking it over, lean year in the big-name hired dept. Bryan Harsin was like a fourth choice. Heupel was like ninth. It was so bad, Bert to Illinois was ranked as sixth best by Athlon. Oof.

This is why I wouldn't fire a coach without a pretty well considered plan.  Just to fire him and then wonder what next is a bad mistake, as we see repeatedly.

Now if they could get Aranda, I'd be tempted, but I'd reach out to his agent covertly and see what it would take, and then move.

look- you can fire guys- but you have to take a risk on a young guy or an up and comer. Sark DOES NOT fit that bill. At all. Sark was a failure- at two big-time P5 programs. WTF made Texas think he was going to magically turn it around just because he spent the night with Saban?

Too many times these schools fire coaches and then think they have HAVE to get a "big name" and then when the big name doesn't come they think they have to get a mediocre guy who has had head coach experience at a big program.

You're better off just not even going after the big name- and you're better off staying THE HELL AWAY from failures and retreads like Sark.

Look at the schools that always find great coaches- think Baylor- think MSU- they don't go after the flavor of the month or hot name- they just go out and find good coaches. There are PLENTY of them out there.

So far it's not looking like all that bad of a hire, though...

Fickell will be on someone's radar and would have been a much better hire than Sark, although I'm not sure if he was considered at all.

Yup.  I keep laughing at people that think Texas boosters and fans are different than any other helmet school.  Texas has made bad hires.

Oklahoma went through multiple bad hires in short succession until they landed on Stoops.  Alabama went through multiple bad hires in short succession until they landed on Saban.  Were they "toxic" too because they made bad decisions?  Laughable.
