I get it, but they were a big deal at least partially because they had ringers - some talent came through Huntington that had no business being there.

Moss and Kresser, specifically.

I'm not familiar with how Pennington and Leftwich got there.  I should look it up.
IIRC, Pennington only had mid major offers, but opted for 1AA Marshall, because his parents went there.

I don't know Leftwich's story

Is the D on SMU's helmets new?  Do you guys like it?

So far this year:
My mom died
Brother in law diagnosed with skin, lung and brain cancer
brother went to alcohol rehab
Ex-husband diagnosed with cancer
Only remaining uncle diagnosed with cancer
Husband had rotator cuff surgery

Oh!  And no Husker football.  2020 sucks the big one, ya'll. I need some mindless entertainment to get away from it all, lol
Hang in there and best wishes.I lost a very good friend 3 weeks ago today. His wife's sister is in hospice and her brother lost half a leg to diabetes and is not doing well either. You're not alone and yes 2020 sucks the big one

They did it some last year as well.  I'm a uniform-traditionalist and don't usually like alt uniforms or gimmicky stuff on the helmets, so I don't love it.  But I do kind of like the font, looks sort of 80s which is my jam.

They're using the "D" and the "Dallas" on the jersey to see if they can appeal to the average Dallas citizen that has no real loyalty to any other team and make a fan of them.  I don't know if it works or not.  I remember a few years back Fresno State had a big V on their uniform or helmet, to represent the "Valley."

We've got special Monday Nigh Football tonight

BYU at Navy, 8 pm, ESPN: Might have a good one tonight.  The line is even per ESPN.  After watching Army chew up Middle Tennessee, makes me think Navy might have an advantage with the reduced practices, but BYU has a pretty decent front seven.  Navy is breaking in a new quarterback, and I've read they haven't quite settled on one.

I just assume everyone in Dallas is a Longhorn.  The SMU pony as pretty distinctive and now it looks all congested on the helmet.  Meh.

I love when schools do this, trying to suddenly pull in their geography. It's basically like "what if we could be good USC in terms of fanbase?"

In either case, I like the helmet.

Hmmmm.  Dallas Mustangs.
Sounds like an XFL team name.
I wonder if it will turn indifferent-to-CFB Dallasites into SMU football fans.  I sort of think not.

I'm sure that there are many Horn fans in Dallas.  I would guess that they are not a majority, but a plurality of Dallasites who care about CFB.
But there is a significant Sooner contingent there too.  On the old CFN Big 12 board, the late Hooky Hornstein/Charley Horse called Dallas in particular and northern Texas in general Baja Oklahoma.
Surely a bunch of Aggie fans in Dallas.
Probably a smaller bunch of Texas Tech fans.
Some SMU fans.
Some TCU fans.  I don't know if being a P5-conference-member has increased TCU's fanbase in Dallas or not.
Some North Texas fans.
FWIW (nothing), I don't like the D-pony design either.

I have to admit I guess I always associated SMU with Dallas because when I was a kid they played their home games in the Cowboys’ stadium.

Damn big cities, too much of a melting pot.

Last time I flew in there, the BBQ place I wanted to try had too long a wait. Thankfully the backup option was also fantastic.

You people are acting like Northwestern is not Chicago's Big Ten team, and Rutgers is not New York's Big Ten team
