There is precedent.  In 2010 Ohio State players traded memorabilia and autographs for tattoos and cash which Jim Tressel covered up.  Since the players were ineligible the NCAA vacated all of the Buckeye's wins for 2010 as part of the sanctions.

Why would you even ask that question?  Are you aware of some facts that aren’t public?

schools are only punished for playing players they know are ineligible.   Is that the case here?  There certainly is no information that would indicate that.

The only thing that has been said publicly is that OSU was made aware on the Sunday after their Wisconsin game.  

I know from skimming the UM blogs, they feel he should be banned for life from ever playing football, or it is the greatest injustice ever. But that level of delusion usually doesn’t make its way here.

precedent says, if the loan came from an agent, he is done with College.   If it was not an agent-and that is what the latest reports have said,  it would depend on the amount of the loan, if the person giving it has any connection to the school, and other potential circumstances.

it could be as simple as what he says it is, a family friend, and used to fly his girlfriend to attend the Rose Bowl.   that might land somewhere between 2-4 games.  

Nobody here knows the facts though.   We will just have to see.

Not reporting and covering it up are two different things.Tressel didn't think much of it,the University IT people actually reported it to Administration,the infractions were not even known to the Kids,probably but Tressel was aware of compliance so it was on him.They were trite no drugs,money handouts,violence or sexual assault.Now I'm not for paying players,but where are they gonna get money if the folks are basically broke.And lets not bullshit ourselves - many are exactly that.Some Programs are a little more forward than others of reporting such.Ya Chase Young is the only kid this year to take finiancial aid - underhanded or not in the whole of Division I Football.Say that out loud and see if you really believe it

He's a top ten pick if not top one pick obviously.  The Bungles might get #1 and draft a QB from Hawaii with gaudy numbers.

I'm not buying the Tua hype. The NFL execs look for reasons to rip high draft picks apart. They'll find plenty of those reasons with Tua. Chase Young is virtually bulletproof. 6'5", 265 with the athleticism and production to match a #1 overall pick. They look for sure things when they draft #1 overall picks. There isn't a more "sure thing" in this coming draft than Chase Young. He's a plug-n-play 10-year starter who will make multiple Pro Bowls at minimum as long as he's healthy.

Whoever really wants a QB at all costs will be willing to take Joe Burrow ahead of Chase Young, but I agree with you about the Tua (over)hype. Injuries are mounting to his ankles and, even more suspect, how much of Tua’s success comes down to playing QB under perfect conditions?? Tua’s OL keeps him from harms way, the running game is there whenever he needs it, and all of his receivers catch anything remotely near them. None of that translates to the NFL environment.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. If it's a family friend who doesn't know all the ins and outs of NCAA rules, and was just trying to help him out, it might be minimal.

If it was an agent, who should absolutely know better, then I think he'd be toast.

Sounds like Young will be back for Penn State

according to Ohio State the NCAA has ruled him out for Rutgers, but back for Penn State
