Wolf and Subzero of course are near high end brands they use in higher end houses and condos these days.  They catch the eye.

We visited one house that had a double wide Subzero fridge with that fancy LCD screen on one side.

Miele is another near high end brand.  A Miele range was $7700.  Nyet, for me.

Good to know think I read that a while back but it didn't register because I wasn't looking.A buddy who repiars appliances recommended not buying Samsung dryers, lots of problems and expensive parts, well there all expensive they are pricier. The companies have been gobbled up by each other.GE sold their appliance line to Haier - Haier,GE just makes jet engines and defense dept goodies.Kenmore has been made by Whirlpool & LG.Maytag has been made by bought and by Whirlpool.Crazy keeping score
A friend of mine owned a trucking company that shipped items out of a nearby appliance factory.  It was funny, the factory supposedly was a factory for a specific brand but the boxes that he shipped out of there had all different brand names on them.  My sneaking suspicion is that there are only really two or maybe three different manufacturers out there for most of these.  Then after the basic unit is built different brands put their logos and control panels on them and sell them as theirs.

I will also second NOT buying Maytag or Samsung.  They are terrible.  Samsung washers and dryers are built so badly they actually corrode away.  Maytag is now cheap parts under a formerly nice brand.

Buying a big brand, then downgrading it to cheap crap and capitalizing on the profits seems to be a big thing these days.  Here's a list of companies that were once amazing but are now terrible.

Bose
Craftsman
Breyer's Ice Cream
Maytag

I'm sure there are many more.
I have a ~20 maytag washer/dryer pair and they are great but you are right, the new Maytags are just somebody else's junk with a Maytag sticker slapped on it and an upcharge.

Like you, I HATE when some corporate raider trashes a brand's hard-won reputation like that.

depending on how many appliances you need, you could go to one of the big box stores (lowes/home depot/etc) and get a contractor discount. usually need to spend $5000+, but if you're buying all new appliances, you should meet that. discount is usually around 15%. they'll take a ticket, submit to corporate, and list a discount on each item. some items might be 20-30%, some might be 10%, but usually rounds to around 15% total. at least that's how i've done it in past.

also, don't be like me and insist on getting all same brand/model. do a little research and get best appliance for it's specialty. i wish i'd done research and gotten best product for each one instead of all just looking the same. my stove/range is great, but my fridge is just ok and my dishwasher is terrible. washer/dryer were fine, but they were bought a different time and are a different brand and getting old, so i might be in same market as you soon.
I manage some rental property and we try to buy in bulk to get discounts as well.  Sometimes I'll just buy an extra or two for future use because I know I'll eventually need them.

I only buy them when one of them dies

then I don't wait for a sale

it's urgent
Lol.  Me too.  Unfortunately, in the last 6 weeks I’ve bought a new washer, dryer, and dishwasher.  When it rains it pours I guess.

We got ours at Big Sandy - they are always running sales if you buy a set.  We got LGs.

We put Wolf/Sub-Zero in our new kitchen. Love the Sub-Zero fridge. Love the way the Wolf performs and looks, but both major Wolf appliances (we have a dual-fuel range/oven and a steam oven) have had maintenance issues in the two short years we've owned them. The springs in the knobs for the range have been awfully touchy and haven't allowed us to control the heat as much as we would like. The steam oven is amazing--we love it--but we've had two calls on it recently regarding the fan in which the repair guy said it struggles with dishes that create grease--including those that are in the Wolf steam oven cook book. That's a little frustrating for what is supposed to be near industrial grade stuff.

We can't stand our Asko dishwasher. I think Wolf/Sub-Zero now has a relationship with Bosch, but when we bought, the relationship was with Asko. We've had tons of issues with ours. Maybe it's a lemon, maybe it's just not a good dishwasher, but it's been frustrating to deal with for high-end appliances.

Way back in the day, our laundry department was very high on Kenmore (Whirlpool).  We had a laundry with about 35 washers in it, plus 4 Maytags and 4 GEs.

The GEs had a high agitation rate that tore up clothing, and the Maytags were the reverse, the lasted because they barely moved the water around.  They would do "suds mapping" with these machines testing new formulas.  Women back then still though suds meant something was cleaning (it does with dishes being done by hand).

The guy there told me the Kenmores almost never broke down, and they were running 8 hours a day 5 days a week.  That was circa 1980, not relevant to today.  I think our washer/dryer is Samsung, so far so good, about 5 years.  They barely fit in our laundry room which is quite small.

Yeah, Sears is a disaster.  There is a very large brick building near us that used to be THE Sears in town, the only one.  Now it's a kind of upscale mall thing.
