You are not being serious about Ohio State, now. It is very unlikely An Ohio State University would lose to The University of Iowa this weekend.
Is this a "No Way" misnomer, as in "No Way" tOSU can win in Iowa City this Saturday? Not a chance really why bother watching, got leaves to rake

The top-5 are unchanged in the new poll so Ohio State has now moved into #1 alone with 468 appearances in the top-5, one more than Alabama.

Also, Texas has now caught Nebraska for 6th all-time in top-5 appearances. The Longhorns and Cornhuskers each have 296 appearances.

Most top-5 appearances of all-time (1,273 polls from 1936-2026):
  • 468 Ohio State
  • 467 Alabama
  • 432 Oklahoma
  • 329 Notre Dame
  • 325 Michigan
  • 296 Texas
  • 296 Nebraska
  • 276 USC
  • 257 Florida State
  • 219 Georgia
  • 217 Miami, Fl

The current top-5 are in bold.

I included Miami, FL because they are so close to Georgia and the Dawgs are in Tuscaloosa this weekend so the 10th spot is in play within the next couple of weeks. After Miami there is a significant drop before #12 Florida.

congrats osu. hopefully we win this week and don't let you stretch out the lead further than 1.

outside shot of tying it with a narrow win, with uga staying 5th and bumping osu to 6. but i don't think that's likely at all.

Also, Texas has now caught Nebraska for 6th all-time in top-5 appearances. The Longhorns and Cornhuskers each have 296 appearances.
The Longhorns have also moved into a tie for 9th place all-time in #1 appearances.  Texas and Georgia each have 54 appearances at #1.

Interestingly, I think that the #1 spot is a lot more open this week than usual.  Here are the current top-7 and who they are playing this week.  I think all except Ohio State and Indiana have at least a plausible shot at being #1 next week:
  • Texas vs nr Oklahoma at a neutral site.  UT is tied for 9th with 54 #1 appearances.
  • Georgia at #6 Bama.  UGA is tied for 9th with 54 #1 appearances.
  • Notre Dame vs nr Stanford.  Notre Dame is 4th with 98 #1 appearances.
  • Miami, FL is off this week.  Miami is 8th with 68 #1 appearances.
  • Ohio State vs nr UMD.  tOSU is #2 with 122 #1 appearances.
  • Alabama vs #2 UGA.  Bama is #1 with 141 #1 appearances.
  • Indiana at nr Nebraska.  IU is tied for 38th with 2 #1 appearances.

Looking forward to next week, what I think they each need to get to #1:
  • Texas:  Win the RRR and either do it impressively or hope that UGA/UT is close.
  • Georgia:  Win impressively or just win and root for the Sooners.
  • Notre Dame:  Look impressive, root for a close win by Bama and a Texas loss.
  • Miami:  Root for the Sooners, a close win by Bama, and the Tree.
  • Ohio State:  They can't get there because the undefeated UGA/Bama winner will be ahead of them.
  • Alabama:  Win impressively or just win and root for the Sooners and hope ND and tOSU don't look that great.
  • Indiana:  They can't get there because they aren't going to leapfrog the UGA/Bama winner.
I'm not sure but I honestly think that the UGA/Bama winner is more likely than Texas to be #1 next week.  Texas could hold it if UGA/Bama is fairly close and the Longhorns just annihilate the Sooners but I think we'll have a new #1.

There is some doubt that the Bama/UGA game will happen.
