This probably shouldn't bother me but it does:

Ohio State *SHOULD* be on the above list.  They have two streaks relevant here:
  • 132 weeks from 2012-2020 is the 11th longest of all-time so just out of the top-10 listed above
  • 100 weeks from 2020-present is the 22nd longest of all-time.
Those two are separated only by two weeks in 2020 when Ohio State was ineligible due to the B1G not yet playing during the pandemic.  Prior to that Ohio State was #2 in the 2020 preseason poll and when Ohio State regained eligibility they were #6 in the September 27, 2020 poll.  They were ineligible/unranked on September 13, 2020 and September 20, 2020.

If you phrase it as consecutive appearances in weeks in which the team was eligible then Ohio State's current streak is 232 which is the second longest active streak (behind only Alabama's 299 and the third longest of all time behind only the aforementioned current Alabama streak and Nebraska's all-time longest of 348.

Regarding Ohio State's current streak, if they remain continuously ranked:
  • In three weeks they will catch themselves (04-11) for 21st
  • In five weeks they will catch Alabama (91-97) for 20th
  • In seven weeks they will catch Clemson (14-21) and Miami, FL (99-06) for 18th
  • In eight weeks they will catch Kansas State (95-01) for 17th
  • In 12 weeks they will catch Nebraska (69-77) for 16th
  • In 14 weeks they will catch Michigan (98-05) for 15th
  • In 21 weeks they will catch Penn State (93-00) for 14th
  • In 24 weeks they will catch Notre Dame (87-94) for 13th
  • In 30 weeks they will catch USC (02-09) for 12th
  • In 32 weeks they will catch themselves (12-20) for 11th
  • In 43 weeks (about 2-1/2 years) they will catch Colorado (89-97) to get into the top-10.

Ohio State snuck back into the top-5 this week and is now tied with Alabama. The Buckeyes and Tide have each appeared in the top-5 467 times out of 1,272 AP Polls.  Oklahoma (442) has also been in more than one out of three.

Notre Dame (328) and Michigan (325) have been top-five in more than one out of four AP Polls.

Nebraska (296), Texas (295), and USC (286) have each been top-5 in just less than one out of four AP Polls.

Rounding out the top-10 are Florida State (257) and Georgia (218).

Alabama also hit the 300 consecutive weeks ranked mark this week. 2nd all time behind Nebraska's 348 weeks.

and congrats, ohio state.

bama has a much tougher game this week than anticipated with what looks like a good msu team, but of those in front of bama not many have what seems to be tough games, outside of osu's game. so osu losing looks like most likely chance for bama to not get passed next week.

if bama wins this week and next, they're almost certain to be top 5. big ask, though. and it doesn't get much easier for bama either, with tenn, aTm, and lsu the next 3 following uga.

It looks like Ohio State (@Iowa) and Bama ( ) are the two highly ranked teams most likely to lose this weekend so that makes this interesting.
  • Texas is off so they aren't going to lose
  • Georgia vs Vandy, it is a home game, Georgia is favored by 24.5.
  • Notre Dame at UNC, road games are tough but UNC isn't very good Notre Dame is favored by 21.
  • Miami, FL at Clemson, road games are tough but Clemson isn't very good, the Canes are favored by 17.5.
  • Ohio State at #14 Iowa, the Buckeyes are favored by 14.
  • Indiana at Rutgers, Rutgers is atrocious, the Hoosiers are favored by 24.5.
  • Alabama at #16 MissSt, the Tide are favored by 6.
  • Florida at #25 Mizzou, the Gators are favored by 4.5.
  • Ole Miss is off so they aren't going to lose but they aren't likely to pass anyone either.
  • BYU at TCU, BYU is favored by 6.5.
  • LSU vs McNeese, LSU shouldn't lose an FCS game
  • TxTech at Colorado, the Raiders are favored by 13.5
  • Utah is off so they aren't going to lose but they aren't likely to pass anyone either.
  • Iowa vs #5 Ohio State, Iowa is a 14 point dog.
  • Oregon is off so they aren't going to lose but they aren't likely to pass anyone either.
The bad news for the Buckeyes and Tide is that they both have road games against ranked conference opponents that they could lose.  The good news is that nobody seems to be in position to jump them unless they lose.

If both teams win their next two I would guess that Bama will jump Ohio State but they'll likely both be top-5 at that point.

I should have mentioned that.  They are now down just 48 on Nebraska's all-time streak.  That is roughly 2.5 years so if they remain continuously ranked they'll catch the Cornhuskers sometime during the 2028 season.

Well I calculated wrong so you have longer than I was thinking above.  I was thinking we were earlier in the year than we are.  Here it is:

  • Alabama has been ranked 300 straight weeks
  • There have been 5 polls this year (preseason and weeks 1-4).
  • There are usually 17 in a season* so if they remain ranked for all of 2026 that is 13 more to get them to 313.
  • 17 more in 2027 would get them to 330.
  • 17 more in 2028 would get them to 347.
  • I *THINK* they would tie Nebraska with an appearance in the 2029 preseason poll.

I said usually because it varies:
  • 5 so far in 2026
  • 17 in 2025
  • 17 in 2024
  • 16 in 2023
  • 16 in 2022
  • 16 in 2021
  • 17 in 2020
  • 17 in 2019
  • 16 in 2018
  • 16 in 2017
  • 16 in 2016
  • 16 in 2015
  • 17 in 2014
  • 17 in 2013
  • 16 in 2012
  • 16 in 2011
  • 16 in 2010
  • 16 in 2009
  • 17 in 2008
The above is the entirety of Bama's streak because they were unranked in the 2007 final poll and entered at #24 in the 2008 preseason poll and they've been ranked every week since.

You are not being serious about Ohio State, now. It is very unlikely An Ohio State University would lose to The University of Iowa this weekend.

I certainly hope that THE Ohio State University doesn't lose in Iowa City this weekend but Kinnick is a tough place to play and the Hawkeyes just took out another Blue Blood on the road so while the Buckeyes are favored, an upset is hardly unthinkable.
