These two schools have had similar Power-5 matchups against teams with outstanding defenses, and lousy offense, and the results were:
Iowa 20 - Iowa State 13
Penn St  30 - Illinois 13
Iowa's star tight end, Luke Lachey, will likely miss this game due to injury. Iowa is deep at tight end. There are four other tight ends that have had playing time and appear to be fairly good, but Luke Lachey has definitely been the shining light of the receiver corps this year.
Both teams have good defenses. Penn State has given up 35 points this year; Iowa has given up 37 points.
It's a white-out night game at Penn State. Last time Iowa was a white-out opponent was 2009 when Iowa won 21-10. The offense didn't score much in that game. Adrian Clayborn blocked a punt and ran it in for a TD. Iowa scores in similar ways this season.
It is not going to be 4-2 this time. Penn State's offense is too much for Iowa.

if the game was in Kinnick and Iowa had any semblance of an offense I'd pick them. they seem to play out of their minds at home. but...it's on the road and the offense is still wtf-ish. thanks, brian.

I think it'll be a close game because Iowa's defense is so good and they'll keep them in it, but then eventually late in the game the defense will tire out and break as all defenses do when their offenses just keep going 3 and out and punting or turning it over and putting them in bad situations.

I think your score prediction of Penn State 24-14 is pretty dead on the money.

Illinois defense made Penn State look beatable and Iowa's defense is better.   If Iowa can take care of the ball and score points they have a chance.

Penn State was playing Illinois on the road. They are playing Iowa at home. Teams typically play better at home than vs on the road in CFB. 

And the underlined, well that's a big IF and a big ask. Iowa is more than likely not going to be able to score points vs a very good Penn State defense on the road.

Iowa historically plays PSU tough and Ferentz is 10--8 against PSU overall.,  but...

It just feels like PSU is going to dominate this game, something like 31-10 final score.  It may only be 10-3 at the half but the Iowa defense will eventually get tired.
