Old and very wealthy.  Like across the board, they do this.  They want fitness-model bodies after 50.  They can achieve that, but it ages their faces, so they get work done.
If they'd just gain 15-20 lbs, their faces wouldn't be so aged.  Have some soft tissue in there, not just a skull wrapped in skin.  

It's akin to the hotties 'needing' to have impossible bodies - a flat stomach and huge boobs and a huge ass but stay skinny.  That combo doesn't work naturally.  
In 5,000 years, when they dig up our bones, they're going to have a lot of questions.  Why do so many have these bags stuffed in their chest?

Retired players seem to struggle with filling their time/passion.  Football has been their whole life.  Now what?  They need a hobby.  And that's just random players.  If you've been a star for 20 years, that struggle is more about relevance than anything else.

Hey @ELA , are you familiar with the college football 27 game and how they do the ultimate teams, including legendary players? (same as madden, same as CF26)
Why do they do it like that?
Different levels of player cards, so you could 'open' or 'rip' an 80-rated Darren McFadden or an 83-rated or 87-rated McFadden.
It is just a way to 'hide' the small number of legends they signed? 
I know the actual answer is to make more money, but aside from that.....there's so many amazing historical players.  I'm sure they do their best to acquire the rights to as many as they can, but the tiered cards of the same players seems stupid to me. 
It's rating --> value and not rating --> ability.

I hate that.  It's such a missed opportunity.

I never play that mode, but my son does on The Show, and its the same issue.  He "ripped" Jackie Robinson.  But he was an 83 Jackie Robinson, who was worse than his current SS, who I think was Jeremy Pena.

My guess is people just want past stars.  You rip a Jackie Robinson 83, you keep playing.  You rip a SS who would have actually been an 83, you stop playing.  I just looked up The Show 08, which was the first one I had.  Orlando Cabrera was an 82.  Rafael Furcal was an 85.  People quit if they rip a Rafael Furcal.  Even though that's the fun of cards, it's mostly crap, with the hope of a good one.  So they sort of try to simulate that, but without using the players who deserve those ratings.  McFadden was a 99 in NCAA 08.  MSU's 3rd string RB, AJ Jimmerson, was an 84 on that game.  What is more likely to keep you playing?  Pulling an 83 McFadden, or pulling a "better" MSU 3rd string RB?  I think it's just a money grab, as frustrating as it is.  I'd rather pull guys based on their actual ratings


I think the settlement was for anyone in any of these games, so they do have their rights now, so I don't think its that.  I think its making sure kids actually know the guys they are pulling.  Maybe we are just college football nerds, but I'd love finding out I pulled Eastern Michigan's fullback from 1996, and putting that card right in my bike spokes

Why not just have historical stars with 90+ ratings for the most part then?  There are so many - I bet 500+ name stars we've all heard of.
I wouldn't play an 83 McFadden over an 85 Joe Schmo, because I want my team to be as good as possible.

Hell, you could pyramid it and only have 1-2 99s, 4-5 98s, and on down, down as low as you want to go - maybe 85 or so.  But all-time stars should be highly-rated and not tiered, with several different levels of the same guy.  I don't get that part.

I guess I'm saying there's enough volume of great players for each player to have one card.  Current players can have tiers, for whatever reason, but idk.

I agree, but, as you said, money.

I actually love the idea of ripping random ass NCAA player cards.  My wheels are spinning, but I do not have the time.

I would play the mode if they included every player, with their rating, since NCAA started.  I'd be ok with multiple Darren McFaddens if you got different year Darren McFaddens.  I got sophomore Darren McFadden, he's an 85; junior year Darren McFadden is a 93, etc...  And then build the rareness like a pyramid.  The problem is my kid would quit after getting not getting rewarded, and others would as well
