If Fickell kept Leonard, he'd be keeping around his replacement.  Mejor no.
Leonard should go to Iowa when Kirk Ferentz retires and make Wisc and Neb regret they ever passed on him.

that's if Iowa will even look at him. Nebraska didn't even bother taking a look and Wisconsin had him right there and said thanks but no thanks.

Nebraska was going to get a guy with proven head coaching experience at the P5 level

Mickey never had a chance.  Neither did other assistants.  Not even Phil Parker

I think I  a vacuum, it's a home run hire, but this was Michigan's "down" year.  The OL will probably take a step back, but I think they'll be better at every other position next year.  OSU has to go to Ann Arbor with a new offense.  I don't see how they win, and when they don't, it's not the 90s anymore.  John Cooper doesn't have that same leash.  I think the OSU job is available 365 days from now

In some ways AU Fandom is like the NFL draft for Jets fans.  It doesn't matter what pick is made or who is hired.

The NY Jets select ....Jesus!
 [AWwwwwww....booooooo..  Yeeeeeeah..... !]  It's pure pandemonium.

lot will depend on who declares for NFL and returns and what happens in the portal for both teams, but as crazy as it sounds....you may actually be right. Michigan *should* be favored in 2023 with the game being in Ann Arbor and with them seemingly returning more from their 2022 teams. Day could wind up going 11-1 or 10-2- and if one of those losses is to Michigan he'll have had 3 losses in a row to Michigan and well the OSU faithful will NOT take that well. That seat will get SERIOUSLY hot if he loses for the 3rd year in a row to Michigan.

did the loss to the Gophers cause Wisconsin to move on from Jim and go with the outsider?
The rumblings were that Fickell said he wasn't interested, and then in the last couple days decided he was.

Before that, it was Jim's to lose, with Aranda maybe being the next option. Weird outcome, but I guess my team got an in-demand coach, and that's nice.

The heat is turned up high NOW on Day.  You know that when there are comments coming in from boosters and former players.

But it is nuanced.  It isn’t just about losing. It’s about how your team plays and fights through adversity during such an important game. The buckeyes folded like a cheap tent when they clearly had the horses to not only win this game but probably dominate it to some extent. Hell, you could see it through the television and even the announcers were saying it repeatedly.

If Ohio State goes to Ann Arbor next year as a sizable underdog, which is highly likely, but plays their asses off and comes up short, you could make an argument that the heat will be less than it is now.

It was the untimely, self-inflicted and boneheaded penalties and complete lack of ability to play pass defense while the ball is in the air that has led to the heat being turned up right now. During the season they gave up the occasional big pass play but it was almost always a contested ball that the defensive back lost because they didn’t turn and look for the ball. This past Saturday it was any ball that was thrown in the air and there were no defensive backs near the receiver. When a tight end can get 15 yards behind the entire defense while the quarterback is being rushed in the pocket, That is beyond embarrassing.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

IMO it should be open now,it's not the old days where firing a guy could effect his family.Keeping him will effect many more.Day and his DC Knowles make 11.5 together. He just lost as many games to Michigan as Tressel/Meyer did in 18 yrs.And they were embarrassments,it's as if he's a Ponzi Scheme on the Ohio State campus that's now unraveling. If he takes a pay cut like Harbaugh then keep him around. He's grossly overpaid to do one thing and he displayed he wasn't only not prepared but didn't adjust either

My guess is that Fickell got interested when Wisconsin decided to meet Fickell's latest demands instead of taking Wisconsin's original proposal.

Cruising the Ohio State blogs for some juicy schadenfreude I noticed that a lot of Buckeye fans are wringing their hands over Fickell going to Wisconsin.  Many want him back in Columbus.

at least Day is losing to good Michigan teams

maybe it's time to bring back Meyer?

I can't think of another coach besides Saban that has a better record than Ryan
