Rueben Owens, the No. 2 running back from the 2023 class, has decommitted from Louisville. He announced this decision just moments ago on social media.

"I would like to thank the Louisville family and fans for all of the love you have shown me throughout this process. This is bittersweet for me, due to all the relationships that have been developed," Owens tweeted. "After talking to my parents and taking everything into consideration I have decided to decommit from the University of Louisville. I will remain prayerful and grateful in this journey."

Owens originally gave Louisville his commitment in June.

So Brohm off to a smashing start
sounds like that 5* #1 RB Owens is about to commit to A&M. Louisville coach leaving for Cinci opened the door and A&M NIL collective brought a bigger bag full of cash than Louisville NIL collective had lined up for him.

Wonder if we're going to see more 5* busts than before as more and more 5* 'croots just go for the short term easy money bag up front and instant gratification than the long term of goal of being developed by an elite coaching staff that has a track record of cultivating talent, winning, and putting guys into the NFL.

Flipped to A&M officially
Signing Day should go away in the NIL era. You can put pen to paper at any point if there's money on the table. Both ways

yup. main reason Owens was going to Louisville was because he had a fat NIL deal lined up. Michigan tried to recruit him and he basically said what you offering NIL, 'cause don't talk to me unless you got the cash. Show me the money. A&M got the in once Louisville coach left and offered more.

NIL deals should be removed from recruiting. Think they should put a thing in there that says freshman can't get NIL deals.

Technically it's not part of recruiting right now, as I understand it.

But... tell me what the hell the NCAA is gonna do about it?

My thought was to keep kids out of NIL until they passed a Marketing/Finance/Management course to help the student navigate all the ins and outs of NIL. I also think all agents who want to work with an athlete at a school must use a school sponsored/monitored email account and sign an integrity type document. Just as a base starting off point.

These "shell" companies that are just glorified boosters paying for the best athlete feels even more dirty than when they were doing it under the table. I haven't heard any stories yet, but where ever there is money there will be money suckers as well. I just waiting to hear about the poor college kid whose agents takes 80% of what he got for his NIL.

I think it very possible NIL is ruining some otherwise talented teams ...

I also agree it needs to be limited and  adjusted and managed, maybe the monies go into a trust.

CFB = semipro now where some players get paid a lot, some get a scholarship, and some get bruised up for nothing.
