2022 SEC Off Season Thread
« on: January 16, 2022, 10:56:44 AM »
I was jealous, so there.

We have a LOT of new coaches.  UF LSU USCe  and probably somebody else.  This is on top of four new coaches last season, so half the league basically.

One can pencil Bama in to win the conference, duh.  UGA is going to lose a lot, they should still be able to fill the holes, but may drop back a bit.  Tennessee runs that fast paced offense that will give somebody problems but they still need more talent.  I don't know where Florida is.  LSU made a splashy hire of course, interesting to see how they recover.  A&M is on the button with some recent elite recruiting, this could be their year to take the West but they play Bama away.  I remain impressed with Kentucky.  I think they will have 8-9 win seasons with Stoops.

I don't know when OU and Texas will join, "not soon" I suspect.

A podcast was questioning UGA's QB for next year, suggesting it's unlikely Bennett would start.

What more must he do? lol

Bennett may not be back next year.  And they have a crowded QB room with another 5 star coming in.  I suspect someone will portal out.

The Hogs should be very good again, I think, folks there are excited by this past season.  Pittman is a very good coach IMHO.  He is building them the right way.

USCe will be 6-6ish.  Mizzou will lame it up at 6-6.  Miss State will probably be 7-5 and upset somebody like A&M.  Ole Miss will be similar, maybe 8-4ish, give or take 4 wins.  LSU I have no clue.  Florida has some issues I think with mindset.  I expect that to take a year or so to sort out.

I'm most interested in LSU. Brian Kelly is a good coach, but usually takes a few years to get going. Not sure LSU is big on giving guys a few years to get going, and the media is going to be on them like crazy.

Saban started out 8-4, 10-3, 8-5, before the 13-1. That is 20 years ago of course, hard to believe it's been that long.  I think if Kelly manages 8-4, 10-3, 9-4, he would survive but feel some warmth.

Saban also had the advantage of not having to coach against Nick Saban

Folks dislike Saban generally, I don't completely get why other than that his teams win a lot.  I suppose folks disliked Urban nearly as much?

I can't find it in me to dislike a coach just because he's a winner, if he is all mouth, OK, I get that, if he has no class, sure, I'm not a fan of Kelly for some reasons, I don't really dislike him, I don't admire him much though.  Harbaugh is a bit annoying at times.  I don't see anything bad about Day or Smart.

I guess folks disliked John Wooden?  Maybe?  No SM back then.

Alabama won the SEC and played for a national title in a "down year" for them.

Bryce Young was a RS Frosh. Yeah, I've got them winning it all next year.

does Bennett have eligibility left? I thought he was a 6th year guy in 2021.

The kid made huge plays vs Michigan and Bama in the playoff. Downfield big-time throws. He wasn't just game manager. He made big plays to help Georgia win a national title. I'm with you, if he's got eligibility how the hell is he not the starter?

He has a year left.  I think he may transfer, really.  JT Daniels is still around, so far, along with Brick Vandegrift and this new kid named "Gunner" Stockton who is supposed to be a something.  This is an amusing post from last year expecting JT to be the Guy.

His start was also before LSU was LSU, which he, of course, started.  They were rubbish before him.
