Several Nebraska football references during tonight's Better Call Saul episode.   Was not expecting to hear Pelini, T Mart,  Frazier, 95 team, Osborne, etc.  Pretty hilarious.

I have NO idear what this is about but....................

The Nebraska football program got all kinds of love on tonight's episode of Better Call Saul. We'll try to avoid any major spoilers, but the 2010 Huskers team becomes fairly essential to the plot.

In the middle of Season 6, Episode 10 entitled "Nippy," Bob Odenkirk's character Gene Takovic aka Jimmy McGill aka Saul Goodman attempts to befriend a security guard at the mall he's working at. The mall is based in Nebraska and Gene quickly establishes a rapport with the guard by talking about Huskers football.

Their very first conversation centers on a recent game between the Huskers and the Texas Longhorns. Curious fans were able to use that info to establish that the episode takes place in the year 2010.

Over the course of several conversations, Gene and the guard discuss everything from Nebraska's then-imminent move to the Big Ten, then-star quarterback Taylor Martinez, Bo Pelini, the legacy of Tom Osborne and the famed 1995 Nebraska football team. The episode was basically a Nebraska football love fest.

Nebraska football's curse needs to be broken.

It isn't a debate on whether or not the program is cursed, but when the curse started. Some say with the firing of Frank Solich. Others say payment for a miraculous catch off a foot in Missouri leading to a national title. But what can we do about it?

No matter the when, KLIN Radio in Lincoln and 1620 The Zone in Omaha are joining forces for an event to break said curse.

On Aug. 25, Unsportsmanlike Conduct will be live at Haymarket Park for the entirety of the show from 2-6 pm. Gates will open to the stadium at 4:30, with concessions in operation for food and drinks.

The Killigans will take the stage at 6.

A number of curse-breaking ceremonies will be conducted, including participation by those Huskers fans who attend. RSVP for the free event on Facebook here: Break The Curse.

You can also suggest ways to break the curse by reaching by texting 402-479-1400 or finding one of the hosts on Twitter:

Jack Mitchell @JackMitchellLNK
Kaleb Henry @iKalebHenry
John Bishop @JohnBishop71
Josh Peterson @joshtweeterson
As the event approaches, more details will be released.

The opening lines for the Nebraska-Northwestern showdown are out via Draft Kings. The Cornhuskers and Wildcats are set to battle at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 27.

The series between the 2 schools has been split down the middle since Scott Frost’s arrival in Lincoln. Both teams have 2 games each in their last 4 meetings. Nebraska took last year’s meeting in Lincoln by a score of 56-7.

Vegas is leaning towards Nebraska as a 12-point favorite in this matchup. There are still a lot of things that are undecided for the Cornhuskers, as a starting quarterback has not been named yet. It will either be Casey Thompson or Chubba Purdy based on what’s been happening at practice recently.

You can watch the game on FOX at 12:30 p.m. ET.

1: Win in August or September over a Power Five team since Frost took over. That’d be the 42-38 win at Illinois in 2019.

Otherwise, Nebraska lost to Colorado, Michigan and Purdue (2018), Colorado and Ohio State (2019), and Illinois, Oklahoma and Michigan State (2021). NU is 1-8 against P5 teams in August and September since 2018, with the COVID-shortened 2020 season starting in October. Now I’ll impart to you something extraordinary.

1: Win in August or September over a Power Five team for Northwestern since 2018. That’d be a 31-27 win over Purdue ... four years ago.

Since then, the Wildcats have lost to Duke and Michigan (2018), Stanford, Michigan State and Wisconsin (2019), and Michigan State and Duke (2021). The Huskers and Wildcats are joined in this early season futility by Illinois and Rutgers, which also have one P5 August/September win since 2018. Illinois beat Nebraska last year. Rutgers beat Syracuse last year.

Nebraska’s Irish invasion is a week away, and the setting for the Huskers’ season opener in Dublin should have a distinctly green – err, make that red – color.

Nearly 10,000 NU fans are expected to be in the 48,000-seat Aviva Stadium on Saturday for the Aer Lingus Classic against Big Ten West foe Northwestern.

Sponsors expect at least 35,000 fans for the game, including more than 13,000 Americans, said John Anthony, the founder of Anthony Travel, the travel sponsor.

“We’re satisfied with that. We’re pleased,” Anthony said in an interview.

Northwestern, the designated home team for the game, expects about 3,000 fans in attendance, although Anthony said that number has “crept up” recently.

If the weather cooperates – and the early forecast calls for Dublin temperatures in the upper-60s to low-70s, partly sunny, with a slight chance of rain – there could be a late surge in ticket sales. Unlike in America, there is no ticket window for walk-up sales on game day at Aviva Stadium. However, fans can still buy tickets online at Ticketmaster.com.
