Former Nebraska head coach Frank Solich is one of nine FBS coaches to earn a spot on the 2023 ballot for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame.

The National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame announced the ballot of players and coaches on Monday morning.

Solich is in his first season of eligibility on the ballot after retiring as head coach at Ohio in July of 2021. During his 22 seasons as a head coach, he compiled a record of 173-101, including a 58-19 record in six seasons as Nebraska’s head coach from 1998 to 2003.

Solich's career at Nebraska spanned 41 seasons. He first entered the football program in 1962 to play fullback in Bob Devaney's first season as head coach.

Solich spent several years as a high school head coach in Nebraska before joining the Husker coaching staff as an assistant in 1979. All 29 Nebraska teams Solich was associated with as either a player or coach played in a bowl game.

Following his head coaching career at Nebraska, Solich guided Ohio University’s program for 16 seasons from 2005 to 2020. During his time at Ohio, Solich coached the Bobcats to 12 winning seasons, 11 bowl appearances and four MAC East division titles. He is the winningest coach in the history of the Mid-American Conference.

In addition to serving as the head coach for one Hall of Fame player (Eric Crouch) and an assistant for another (Mike Rozier), Solich played for Hall of Fame head coach Bob Devaney and worked for 19 seasons as an assistant coach under Hall of Fame coach Tom Osborne.

Overall, Nebraska has 26 representatives in the College Football Hall of Fame, including 20 players and six head coaches. Zach Wiegert is the most recent honoree as part of the 2022 Hall of Fame class and will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame in December.

At times I advise my clients about the importance of exercising one's right to remain silent. Although the context is a bit different here: Former Nebraska quarterback slams school for lack of winning (msn.com) the advice is sound for this context, too.
Adrian Martinez is not my client.

Adrian is a good kid

I don't have a problem with his comments

he's being prodded by the K-staters

he is supporting his team as he did when he was in Lincoln

if Husker fans want to take offense (an they do) that's on them

lack of winning hurts because it's true, lack of talent on the roster hurts, because it's true

I wish the Huskers were playing the purple kitties this season

#ThrowbackHuskerThursday! 1966, Wayne Meylan along with Bob Moore chase the Colorado QB. The All-American led defense shutout the Buffaloes in the second half, for a 21-19 win. It was the fifth consecutive defeat of the conference rival. GBR!!!

The Nebraska football team has shown a willingness to recruit the junior college ranks, and now the Huskers have the best in the pack.

Junior running back Anthony Grant will be in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Friday night to accept the David Rowlands Male Student-Athlete of the Year award, which recognizes the best athlete across all National Junior College Athletic Association sports.

Last season at New Mexico Military Institute, Grant rushed for 1,730 yards and 18 touchdowns, helping the Broncos to the national championship. In two playoff games, Grant barrelled for 590 yards and six touchdowns, including a 398-yard game in the semifinals.

The award caps a decorated final season for Grant, who was the 2021 NJCAA Division I offensive player of the year, rushing champion, first-team All-American and the MVP of the national championship game.May be an image of 1 person and text

THIS WEEK IN HUSKER HISTORY
The week of June 10-16, looking back in five-year intervals

1932: Hugh Rhea, Nebraska's All-America tackle, sets a national collegiate record in the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, 5¾ inches at the NCAA track and field championships in Chicago. Meanwhile, the university reduces football ticket prices for the 1932 season.

1962: Tom Osborne, who assisted on a volunteer basis during spring drills, is now officially a graduate assistant on Bob Devaney’s staff.

1967: Former Husker quarterback Bob Churchich chooses baseball over football as he signs with the Atlanta Braves.

Tom Rathman played FB for Nebraska between 1983-85 and is arguably the best FB in Nebraska history. From Huskers.com: One of the top fullbacks in the nation in 1985, Rathman broke the school fullback record for rushing yards with 881 yards, smashing the record of 717 set by Dick Davis in 1967. Rathman, an All-Big Eight pick by the Associated Press, gained those yards on 118 carries, averaging 7.5 yards a carry.

Mötley Crüe in the news as #tommylee breaks four ribs and can’t complete a show. In other news, he’s not slinging wieners at Cornhusker coeds either… so there is that

The Scarlet Knights announced their opponent and the date for the annual Blackout Game. This season, the Blackout will come on a Friday night with the game set for Oct. 7.

The opponent for the 2022 Blackout will be Nebraska, a fitting opponent with the Huskers and their well-known “Blackshirts” defense. Kickoff time is set for 7 pm EST.

Nebraska has added another quality control coach to its staff.

Former Army defensive quality control assistant Wes Fleming announced he was joining Nebraska’s staff.

“It was an honor being a part of the Army football program, but I am excited for the opportunity to join the staff at Nebraska!” Fleming announced on social media.

Fleming spent the 2021 season at Army, where he was on the defensive side of the ball. Prior to being at Army, Fleming was the offensive coordinator at Midland University for two seasons. He coached on both sides of the ball at Kansas Wesleyan. In 2018, he served as the school’s offensive coordinator and special teams coordinator. That followed a season in 2017 where he was the school’s assistant defensive coordinator.

Nebraska football is 15-29 overall and 10-25 against Big Ten play since the Huskers hired head coach Scott Frost ahead of the 2018 season, and a telling statistic provides a closer look at how narrow the program's gap has been between wins and losses. Chris Fallica of College GameDay shared this week on Twitter a revealing number about close games, something the team figures to emphasize even more so in 2022.

“Since 2018, Nebraska is 5-18 in games decided by 7 points or fewer and has a -20 TO margin in those games,” Fallica tweeted. “0-7 last year with (a) -8 TO margin in those games. Nebraska outgained their opponents by 26.4 YPG in those 7 games last year.”
