Better they got rid of him now and started planning for the future imo. Good move.

If I’m Alberts I’m throwing tons of money Dave Aranda’s way. That’s my first choice.

Don’t think Aranda would leave Waco for Lincoln.  Urban Meyer might be interested.

Man if Nebraska isn't viewed as a better job than Baylor by coaches, I'm just flabbergasted.  But, that could be true.

Nebraska getting Urban Meyer would be immediately dangerous.  He's a really, really good coach.  I know he has personal baggage but I've never paid much attention to that stuff so not sure how much it would weigh into the decision.

Another Board
"They had to have worked out a new deal or something. Can't believe they would just give away 7.5 million instead of waiting a few weeks"
Think they might have done that?
I think there are three possibilities

1. The vibes just got so, so bad, and the school just paid that much for feelings. (Possible in this crazy world, and if it's the case, speaks somewhat poorly of that admin)
2. A set of super rich boosters vented their feelings, and the admin said "If you want him gone that bad, you can cut that check today"
3. They went to him, said "You're gonna be out. We can make you coach three more games, then fire you, or if we give you a few 100 grand, you'll take the lower rate and we split now."

The latter two options both make sense. If it's the first, and you don't land Urban Meyer, we'll be talking within five years about what a comical failure Trev Alberts is. Simply put, there's no part of wooing 99 percent of coaching candidates that has to happen the last 3 weeks of September.

Besides historic success, what makes it a better job today?

Better fanbase, but I don't know how much difference that makes to a coach.

I think former TCU head coach Gary Patterson would do pretty well in Lincoln.  He's an analyst on our staff right now and I'd hate to lose him because I can already see his positive influence on our defense, but he'll eventually want a head coaching gig again and Nebraska would be a good fit for him, I think.  Bonus is he'd be immediately available...

They forgot to take into account the unlikely event that they beat Oklahoma. If Frost does it, he has his "Earle Bruce" moment in the Sun on his way out the door. You know he's going to suffer another embarrassing loss soon after, and you can pull the trigger then.

If the interim guy beats Oklahoma in his first game? All of a sudden you have to put him on the short list.

He would have to sell his soul to the devil to beat OU and that might not be enough

The same OU that was down 3-0 to Kent State at the half?
