I'm ready to move on to next week!

If Michigan State wins they almost clinch the B1G-E.  They would effectively have a three game lead on all contenders.  After beating the Buckeyes, all the Spartans would have to do to get to Indianapolis is win either of their last two games (vUMD, @RU).

The situation for a victorious Ohio State is almost as good.  The Buckeyes haven't played Michigan yet which leaves open the possibility of a 7-2 Ohio State losing a tiebreaker to a 7-2 Michigan but that is extremely unlikely because both PSU and MSU have pretty easy schedules the rest of the way and if Ohio State is involved in a three or four team tie with the Wolverines and either the Spartans or the Nittany Lions or both, Ohio State wins that tie.

Bottom line, the winner of this game is extremely likely to go to Indianapolis.

How will the game go?  Who knows.  If Michigan State responds to their win over PSU as poorly as Ohio State did, the Bucks will roll.  If Ohio State looks like they did against Iowa, the Spartans will roll.

One concern for me as an Ohio State fan is the ability of the Buckeyes to play without the CFP / potential National Championship as a motivating factor.  No current Buckeye player has ever played a regular season College Football game in which their team was not a factor in the CFP race.  That will change Saturday.  If the Buckeyes see that as the end of the season and mail-it-in, the Spartans will easily make them pay for it.

Looking at these two teams' last two games, it is really hard to know what to expect.

Bosa was ejected in the first half vs. Iowa so he'll be back?

Bosa is back, ejected in 1st half so he's allowed to play the entire game.

Vegas has the Spartans as a 15 point underdog, lol, thanks a lot vegas, that pretty much guarantees a dantonio win.

I agree with the above posters, I have no clue about this game. Does this OSU team have any pride? I think JT does, I think a guy like Hubbard does, but the other guys?

MSU is playing with a chip on their shoulder, their defense is obviously pretty stout. If Lewerke keeps up his 400 yards passing per game, which against these OSU Linebackers and secondary certainly seems possible, then I think MSU has an excellent chance. recent history they've played OSU better in the Shoe anyways.

unfortunately the early forescast shows sun for the game, but I'm sure Dantonio can whip up a monsoon by Saturday.

I think for Ohio State to be successful the offense has to do a better job controlling the clock, and they need to start running the football. I still believe JT is a good college QB, but the defense obviously is not as stout as we were led to believe before the season started.

it would probably help if OSU doesn't spot it's opponents TDs in the first avg of 8 seconds per game, that's not a positive trend.

I really don't want to pick this game, but I will anyways. I guess I'll take MSU 31-24. I think they are riding an emotional high and OSU was just crushed. If Sparty can get out to quick lead the OSU defense might fold again like last week.

I would favor MSU at this point, inasmuch as they have a much more potent version of Iowa's Offense.

The special teams differential is no doubt quite vast, and Dantonio is gonna have his D ready to go full throttle.

Since the Rose Bowl is a semifinal, that means the B1G Ten Ccg winner doesn't go, no?

This.
I assume it will be a tightly contested game as every one between these teams has been, but I wouldn't exactly guarantee it.  Who the f*** knows.

I'm not sure about that yet. Iowa is looking like it is really starting to click, finally.

im guessing the Wisconsin/iowa total points scored is less than the 55 Iowa scored last week.

They clicked last week.  That was the first time in conference play, outside of one quarter against FCS Illinois.  17 against Minnesota the week before, 10 against Northwestern the week before that.  Then 24 against Illinois (including a defensive score), until the 4th; 10 against Michigan State; 19 against Penn State.
Iowa fans were openly wondering if they'd hit double digits.  55 truly came out of nowhere.

old Dantonio (one of my favorites by the way, along with ferentz) got a gift.  OSU being favored is ridiculous!

The home team has not won in this series since 2007.

Ohio State just played its first pro style offense of the year, and were totally demolished, confused, and out of place.  MSU and UM are drooling...as they should be.

Sadly- even though these games are typically close, I don't see this one being that way. MSU by 14 or more.

They wont admit this but they got so cocky with where they were after PSU, those coaches did not put in the time or detail to prepare for what they were walking into.

Unfortunately- recognizing how well MSU is running and throwing and defending--and trying to prepare now is way too late. Your team has no confidence, in each other or the other side of the ball (offense and defense). that is going to a gunfight with the yips.

My guess is the damage is done.

Football at this level is so much more mental and emotional then most think. That's how an NFL team can lose 5 times including getting blown out, and still win it all.

Leadership/coaching is a very fragile thing sometimes.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

Is there any result that would surprise anyone?

I honestly wouldn't be surprised by any of the following:
  • A blowout (either way),
  • A tightly contested good game where it looks like two heavyweight CFP Contenders going at it,
  • A tightly contested sloppy game where it looks like two B1G bottom-feeders going at it.

I agree that the mental aspect of the game is important and sometimes underappreciated.  However, I think that you are only looking at one side of it.
Mental possibilities that favor Michigan State:
  • That Ohio State may feel that the season is over (because the CFP is gone) and "mail-it-in".
  • That Ohio State's confidence in themselves and each other may be shot by the humiliation in Iowa City.
  • That Michigan State may feel confident and recharged now that they are legitimately playing for a B1G-E Championship.
Mental possibilities that favor Ohio State:
  • That Ohio State may feel hungry and angry and show up with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove.
  • That Michigan State may feel overconfident after beating Penn State and watching Ohio State get humiliated in Iowa City.

Both teams have been up-and-down not only this season but just in the last two weeks.  That is why I just have no idea what to expect here.

Angry/hungry Ohio State with something to prove vs overconfident MSU = Ohio State blowout win.

Dejected/mailing-it-in Ohio State vs confident MSU playing for a B1G-E Championship = MSU blowout win.
