Good thing GA didn't run it up on FSU?

Tennessee's attempt to run up score during Citrus Bowl blowout irks former Broncos QB

The Citrus Bowl marked the second straight shutout for Iowa

https://www.foxnews.com/sports/tennessees-attempt-run-up-score-during-citrus-bowl-blowout-irks-former-broncos-qb

Brock Osweiler, who was a member of the Denver Broncos Super Bowl 50 team, expressed his displeasure with Tennessee's late-game decisions.

"I don’t love this move here by the Vols right now," said Osweiler who was one of the game's broadcasters. "They had an opportunity to run out the clock, I get it, you got some backups in there. They’ve worked hard, they’ve earned reps. But there is also a sportsmanship element to this game well within hand, 35-0."

He is absolutely right.

Show a little class.

Just kidding.  Fuck him.  Give your third-team QB a chance to score a garbage TD with 15 seconds left.  Because we're a culture of retards.  And that's what we do.

My question is why the hell did Iowa come out there with a crap team and try to pass it off as the 3rd best defense in the country?  Shouldn’t they have played better defense?

Not really related to the subject, but I still thought I'd drop this here.   :)

Bowl games have gotten so 'weird' with opt outs and motivational aspects it's tough to draw much of anything from them in my view, perhaps excepting the top four.  And next year ....

Why you would begrudge second and third stringers the opportunity to do their best even though the game is already decided is sour grapes in my view.

Had they tried to score after getting a 1st down on the one yard line with about 30 seconds left I would have thought it was lacking class. We let the time run out  after getting the first down........good move.
Most of thiose 2nd stringers will be needed next year and they needed the experience against a good dfense.

There isn’t a better way to gain confidence than for 2nd and 3rd stringers to successfully run it up the gut of a 1st team defense when they know it’s coming. It wasn’t the TN players job to stop themselves. It was the job of the highly ranked Iowa defense to stop them and they finally did which is why score remained 35-0.

What the media types don’t ever mention is why teams must run the score up. It’s almost required now. Winning isn’t enough but rather how much you win by. Teams that win on Saturday’s can actually drop in the AP Poll where as in the past, if you won, you typically held your spot. TN wants to be ranked heading into the 2024 season so a good thrashing of Iowa was on the menu.

It could have been a lot worse Heupel could have left Nico and the first team in.  Besides didn't Iowa have a touted nationally ranked defense so where were they?

Supposedly the 3rd or 4th best defense in the nation, statistically. But most of us would agree that there are at least 4 SEC defenses that are better.

I wasn't going to mention it...
I'm probably the only person on the planet who bothered to watch SECN's recap of the bowls on NYD night.
That is, I skipped to their coverage of our game.  I bypassed what appeared to be the bitter tears over Bama.

They gave us about 30 seconds.  The whole time, the entire crew made fun of the dude who was chosen to narrate our highlights -- laughing at whether he navigated Nico's last name.  I mean, to the point where you couldn't hear anything the guy said.

Look -- I understand these guys being a little slap happy after a long day of bowl games.  And indulging in a little inside humor.  But this was unprofessional and over the top.  and since it was OUR guy -- I couldn't have cared less if was Tua or somebody --

it pissed me off.  Most everything does, these days.

They got properly reverential again for the LSU segment.

It just speaks to how we're treated, in general, by the limpd--k media.

"We get screwed more often than a crack whore."

That's it.

It really just came down to one or two plays, that were "really?  We're still trying to stick it in, at this point?"

This is where Johnny or Phil woulda called off the dogs.  I know... it's a different era.  A different age.  "The Age of the Retard".

I'm glad Heup took off the headset when we didn't score, but got the first down.

If he'd run a scoring play at that point -- ZERO class.

I know "class" is a word like "irony" or "risqué" or "unbelievable", that has been retired from the lexicon...

but I'm glad I, personally, didn't have to be embarrassed to be a Vol fan.
