The raise and extension certainly made no sense, as well as his starting salary.
But here we are....with Pruitt too expensive to fire.
But who knows, maybe he just needs one more year to turn it around....not likely, but maybe....

He’s too costly to keep however...... his staff is gonna bail and their replacements will require 2-3 year deals. And attendance is gonna suck next year if he returns.

Why not it couldn't be any worse at least they've coached championship teams and we could get them for a bargain.

What we have is Fulmer allowing Jimmy Sexton a UT alum to rape the university.  To much damn good old boy shit taking place on the hill and it needs to be eliminated along with the good old boys.

Just shows how much these " hit piece" writers know.
Mullin inherited a program that was full of NFL talent and he's managed to maintain that lever since arriving. There were probably a dozen NFL players on the team he inherited and the balance  all were upper SEC talent level . He had a 4th string QB that's probably going to win the Heisman Trophy this year. Why do you think Mullin jumped at the chance to coach Florida.
At the same time Pruitt inherited a team that probably didn't have D-II level talent. He had to dismiss or run off half the team.
I might remind some of the critics of how they regarded Mullin when he resigned from Ms State. No one wanted him at UT . According to the critics , he was a mediocre coach.. He had never won anything and had a losing record against SEC teams.
Funny how great talent makes some coaches look like geniuses.
Now to Pruitt's contract extension...Pruitt insisted that his contract would be merit based. Practically all of the raise in salary he got in his contract extension was based on  a winning record and/or winning Division or SEC championships.
Just giving you guys a heads up  since I'm sure you're ready to chip in the millions of dollars it will take to buy out Pruitt , his assistants and hire a "name" coach  and guarantee contracts for assistants.
Since UT is projected to lose $40 million this year due to covid .
It will take $ 12.8 million to buy out Pruitt and his assistants, probably twice that to hire a "name" coach and his staff.  So we're looking at $35-40 million to get us a " name" coach that the critics will want to fire in 2-3 years.
I'm sure most of you already have your checkbook out and ready to sign.

UT already knew with Covid there would be a shortfall in revenue so why did Pruitt get a contract extension and Fulmer gets an extension bonus?

That dog won't hunt.

The revenue won't be there next year either with Pruitt as coach fans are sick of this crap on display calling it UT football.

As far as buying out Pruitt's contract I'm sure we could get 130,000 fans to donate $100 each if the administration would just ask.

Maybe even more if they fired Fulmer too because he's certainly lacking in the ability to recognize coaching talent. That showed the last few years as HC when he wouldn't fire assistants.

But if the talent level was so bad why wasn't Pruitt was able to recognize it he kept playing a Butch Jones recruit at QB when everyone else could see the guys short comings.

Probably why Fulmer hired him birds of a feather.

I'm guessing you skipped over the part about UT not being any good since Fulmer left? In hate to have to repeat myself but Pruitt got very little increase in salary. He got a contract extension and almost all raises was merit based. It's common practice to give a coach an extension on his contract every year to avoid ugly rumors about firing when recruiting .BTW... Fulmer has voluntarily taken a pay cut this year due to the covid.
Pruitt is not going to be fired this year , however I will take an exception. If UT loses to Vandy tis week then all bets are off. The pressure may be too much to not make a change. But I have to remind you of the loses UTAD is taking this year so all UT will be able to afford is a bargain basement hire. ...and you're dreaming if you think 130,00 vocal critics will give $100 each. All they tend to give is criticism after every loss.

Just shows how much these " hit piece" writers know.  That was reality, not a hit piece.
Mullin inherited a program that was full of NFL talent and he's managed to maintain that lever since arriving. He inherited a team that went 4-8 before his arrival, same as Pruitt. There were probably a dozen NFL players on the team he inherited and the balance  all were upper SEC talent level . Prove that.  I have my doubts.  McElwain was not superb recruiter. Butch's classes rated higher. He had a 4th string QB that's probably going to win the Heisman Trophy this year.  Funny how the previous staff had him as a 4th stringer, huh? Maybe Mullen is a great coach, and QB developer and saw a prodigy buried on the bench, that the last idiot coaching staff couldn't see? Why do you think Mullin jumped at the chance to coach Florida.  Because, we drug our feet until a better job (Florida) opened up.
At the same time Pruitt inherited a team that probably didn't have D-II level talent. He had to dismiss or run off half the team.  The talent wasn't great for sure.  I don't remember him running too many players off, however.  It seems like roster turnover was low under Pruitt.  I could be mistaken.
I might remind some of the critics of how they regarded Mullin when he resigned from Ms State. No one wanted him at UT .  Only morons that can't see recognize a good coach, like the UT brass. According to the critics , he was a mediocre coach..  Some certainly said that. He had never won anything and had a losing record against SEC teams. He won more than anyone else ever at MS. St. and did an outstanding job to anyone with even an amateur eye for coaching prowess.
Funny how great talent makes some coaches look like geniuses.  And some geniuses make shitty talent look great.
Now to Pruitt's contract extension...Pruitt insisted that his contract would be merit based. Practically all of the raise in salary he got in his contract extension was based on  a winning record and/or winning Division or SEC championships.  Horrible decision, and undeserved and unnecessary.
Just giving you guys a heads up  since I'm sure you're ready to chip in the millions of dollars it will take to buy out Pruitt , his assistants and hire a "name" coach  and guarantee contracts for assistants.

Jackie Sherril is the winningest coach in MS State history. He won about 25-30 more games than Mullin.

He won more than anyone else ever at MS. St. and did an outstanding job to anyone with even an amateur eye for coaching prowess.

Correct.  13 years for Sherrill.  9 for Mullen.

Mullen had the higher winning percentage.

Since you guys can't hate on JG now since he's been benched I guess Pruitt is  the primary and only target now...Oops, I forgot Fulmer.
I hate to have to defend Pruitt since I'm not sold on him myself but for those criticizing the pick you seem to have tunnel vison.
When Pruitt was hired , almost everyone in the NCAA had turned us down. We were a national joke.
I try not to criticize  coaches and players because it does nothing but harm the program.
True or not our fan base is considered nation wide as a bunch of redneck, never satisfied  fans that insist on running off coaches ever 2-3 years.
No proven coach is ever going to come here as long as this continues.
There's a time and place for everything and now is not the time to be screaming to fire another coach.

I'm sure we can get that many and more walking over glass and through fire if they knew someone like High Freeze would be hired. But it won't happen with Fulmer he's not hiring anyone who would over shadow his legacy. His ego won't let him it's all about Phil and always has been some of you just won't admit it.

It was in a downfall lacking talent and discipline a few years before he was fired.  His last SEC championship was in 1998 and he only won two so I wouldn't call that a stellar performance at any coaching level. Two of his last four years he had losing records.

He didn't leave the program in the great shape as some pretend if it was then it proves my point he couldn't coach the talent he had. You can't have it both ways.

He backed into a NC so everyone thinks he is greatest coach ever.  A Clint Stoerner stumble and fumble saved his butt because Arkansas had him beat the entire game.  Then FSU lost their starting QB for the NC game. So it wasn't his great coaching and over powering the opposition he just got lucky.
If everyone is thinking alike then somebody isn't thinking.
