Barnes shouldn’t be fired but damn if history doesn’t repeat itself every March with this guy…… like 20 years of NCAAT flame outs. Couldn’t have asked for a better bracket scenario this year the way the seas parted for a really deep run…. Opportunity squandered yet again

We didnt have the hosses this year.  

I think I went over the roster.  never seen a more passive 4th year 5 star than JJJ.

I like barnes.. that team needs a decisive leader.  They lack consistency and not once have I seen a player directing traffic on the court.  They missed easy shots last night, and as I said in the shoutbox, if they'd have hit half of the easy ones they missed they'd have won by 20 points.  

But yeah, I'm tired of watching them under achieve.  That is the frustrating part- and it's on players not having their minds right- distracted- nonchalant lackluster effort.  When they were up 15-8 it should have been 30-8.  Literally.  

These last few teams remind me of Georgia football under Richt... they come oh so close and they have the ability, its just some small something they're missing so the formula is retained and reapplied with hopes of better outcome.

From what ive seen Dilione is for real. He is PART of what we are missing

I thought Phillips was an athlete but he is Soph in HS physically need weight and strength

All will hinge on getting the freshmen PT next year early. Damn the wins and losses

Dilione PG

Estrella and Cade Phillips 4

We deserately missed Zeiglar last night but our major problem was misssing about 2 dozen point blank shots.

Teams take on the personality of their coach.

I have nothing but admiration and respect for Barnes.  

But his is a defense-first, disciplined, "do it right" style.  That mentality seems to affect the offensive effectiveness.  Sometimes, we look really good -- but ugh.  Those droughts.

It seems like a free-wheeling style is more effective in post season.  Stay loose.  Have fun.

At the half last night, FAU had 9 turnovers.  3 of 14 from 3.  And were down 5.  

We failed to score a point for the last almost four minutes.

Not good.

I turned the game off with about 11 minutes left.  And us up a bucket or two. I just got tired of us missing shot after shot.  It was obvious where this thing was going.  And I decided to spare myself the frustration of witnessing it.

Here's the deal:

What I ask of UT basketball is to provide a diversion during the dark, cold winter months.  This, they have done in spectacular style under Barnes.  Great seasons, high rankings, big wins, exciting play.  Twice a week.  

The post season is HIGHLY overrated.

The SEC tourney is a dog and pony show.  Unless you need quality wins to make the dance, it's just an opportunity for injury against teams you've already played once or twice.  Who remembers the SECT champ?  Did us winning last year make any difference after the Michigan game?

The Dance lasts... what?  Three weeks?  6 games, if you make it to the finals?

Two days ago, the low was 30 degrees here.

Yesterday, the high was 80.  Sunset after 7:30, not dark till after 8.  Winter is over.  

So is basketball.  So be it.

Thanks, men, for another successful, entertaining season.  Sweet 16 -- pretty damn good.  I've seen sweeps of seasons go by when we WISHED we could get to the Sweet 16.  Or even the Dance, at all.  Even the NIT.  

Now, losing in the Sweet 16 is a disappointment.  A failure.

But, I'm afraid that's our ceiling with Barnes.  His style of COACHING, if not play, just doesn't seem to work those last weeks of post season.

Screw it.

You have a fine season, which lasts months --

it's ruined by one bad game.  If ONE GUY out of 10 or 11 gets hot last night -- if our bigs could make half of their point blank shots --

we win.

The post season is HIGHLY overrated.

Just like the rules to speed up baseball, I am not a fan of many changes to college and HS basketball, like the 30 sec. clock (let teams run different offenses to fit the players), the 3 pt. shot, etc. I am also not a fan of letting 3 sec. in the lane go, carrying the ball, the Euro step, letting walking go, etc.. The expanded field in the NCAA tourney, if you win the reg. season crown ok go, tourneys are for making money. The NIT was a nice consolation for those who came close to help build for next year.


College football was much better when bowl games counted and players did not sit out. The extra games for the playoffs is going to continue to reward a few schools and have unknown effects of teenagers bodies, etc.

I commented last night the fade away with a hook shot is almost always a miss.

In looking back I think we had some walking wounded at the end of the season.

Vesc.'s should still seems to bother him, the constant pulling on it and No Fouls by many teams never let it heal properly. He seemed more reluctant to drive as he got hit and grabbed a lot when he did. Sort of like he was trying to remain serviceable

I think JJJ knee is still bothering him. He was missing wide a lot as of late which says he was not going up vertical. If tight you are generally short or overly excited long.

I think Phillips hip may still be bothering him some, either real or in his head, as he started shying away from contact a lot once he came back.

We missed Z's d last night as well as his outside shooting, ability to penetrate and dish and kept D's more hones that helped Vesc. get more open.

Uros lost his cool a couple times last night. We did not need that.

Edwards never fully developed this year when pressed he was not as reliable of a ball handler.

Awaka does not have the D footwork, yet, to guard the players he would have had to last night.

Oliver is a head case. He disappears to often. You never know when he will play lights out, even in spurts.

Barnes did a good job with what we had. When I saw FAU play the other night I felt like they would be a problem for us, unless we were hotter than a  4 balled tom cat. We weren't we missed to many crip shots and abandoned that part of our game when we needed it the most.
