Week 9
« on: October 24, 2022, 10:58:41 AM »
Arky at Auburn - I thought Arky would be a 9-3 kind of team and Auburn would be Auburn, I now think Auburn holds on in an ugly one 26-19.

UF - UGA - The Dawgs are favored by the most in the history of this rivalry, over 3 TDs.  Florida is weird.  Dawgs 45  Gaters 13

Mizzou @ USCe - So, Mizzou has shown some spunk and USCe is ranked again, but this seems like the kind of game the Gamecocks lose even at home, Mizzou 27  USCe 24

UK @ Tenn - If not in Kville, I might lean to UK, but that Vol offense is clicking, Tenn 38-28

Ole Miss @ A&M - OM came back near Earth kinda as I expected, and I have a hunch A&M does it to them again, 27-19, and I know this is an upset.

The back end of Ole Miss' schedule will probably tell their tale a lot more than the first 2/3 of their season.  Kentucky was the only decent team they played until last weekend.  If they get everybody back healthy that probably significantly helps their chances, but I don't know the status of their injured players.

A&M, Alabama, Arkansas, and Clanga is what they have coming up.  Could be a few losses, or not.  They have several things going for them when all is well.  As much as it pains me to say it, Lane Kiffin has turned into a pretty good coach.

UK @ UT might turn out to be a good game.  Or UT might hammer them...neither would surprise me.

My plans for the 4th annual Cocktail Party Viewing and simultaneous chili or bbq with my Georgia buddy are canceled due to we'll be out of area for a memorial service on Saturday.  I swear, I don't understand why people can't get the memo.....no fall weddings, and no dyin' in the fall either.

UF will need help from the gods, which they've not pleased lately and who has henceforth forsake them.  Georgia, with fair ease, in this one.  What I'd be on the lookout for more than anything is a nasty bunch of criminals on that UF squad attempting injury to their opponents.

I'm thinking the others save the "other" good one are pretty self explanatory.

Cedric Tillman will be back for UT.  He is the workhorse receiver- else he was- before Hyatt emerged... McCoy and fant will be in the rotation, and Calloway and keyton and white are developing.  It's one thing to key on one or even two capable receivers, but all of them being targeted by a capable QB? .... ask bama how that worked out for them.

I believe UTs DLine and LB to be every bit as good as Ole Miss's.. and OM was all over the QB all game.  I dont think their vaunted TB can get the required yardage alone, which means they'll have to air it out- and air it out quickly.. if they force UK to the deep ball early, they'll run away with this game like a video game.... if they allow UK presence and time in the backfied they'll be playing with fire.

UK can't stop them.  It literally comes down to UTs D instead of their O to bag them.. otherwise they may or may not outscore them.

I'll offer UT 42-51, and to UKs 28-38...... but I'm nervous about this one.

And it keeps getting worse. We just lost 3 offensive linemen, including the center, for the Ol Miss game. So our bad OL goes to worse.

I predict OM 45 A&M 10.

And it gets worse err.  Fisher has suspended 3-4 players indefinitely. No doubt lots of turmoil going on behind the scene.  Looks like that #1 class will be headed to the portal in short order.

Injuries. Two out for the season. One will miss at least one game.

And youth.

It's mishandling of NIL by my wild ass guess.

Most here, I'm guessing, have been a part of a team that wasn't compensated for their effort.  The pros have their own problems, but it's outwardly about $$ with them.  College athletes, especially now where NIL players are highly compensated for endorsement overlap those who aren't and may be struggling financially as they "attempt" to make the pros, are more emotionally attached and likely to spaz when their efforts and contributions are the same as another who are being or have been highly compensated for the same.

It's a bad formula if not handled carefully.

aTm kinda set themselves up for this as between them, UT, and USCw were the most prominent pursuers of those deals.  Again, and not trying to redirect to UT, but they are the best handlers of this new age so far... others are learning from them... its not just the securing of the talent, it's how that's folded into the locker room where a coach has to demand a players effort who isn't making a penny and then a player who is literally rich.  That horse and cart, so to speak, had to arrive together... securing the talent and not knowing how to manage it once it arrives is setting up for failure.  My guess is somebody could ask jimbo offline and see how valid this is.

Oh, I dunno....A&M has such a headstart on cheatin'/'crootin' violations that this should be old hat for them.  Historically those guys could teach Bama a thing or two about underhanded dealings :)

Y'all see the SEC shorts for this week?  For whatever reason I actually lol'd at the part where Vanderbilt said "So we still get the same payout from bowl revenue as Bama, right?  Yeah, I think I'm good."

Yup, they are usually good.  I think LSU learned how to cheat from Eastern Michigan, who are pros at it.

LSU learned to cheat from Huey P. Long, whose brain is in a vat in the capitol basement, still handing out orders.

In all seriousness, it's hard to gauge.  You're talking about a state-run school, wherein the legislatures throughout generations have been so corrupt that Illinois sends political aspirees to take notes.  On the other hand, said legislatures (and governors--a few in particular) have pretty much never tried to hide their corruption.  Rather its a spectacle that the people learned to laugh at.  How much of that trickles down into the uni prez's office, and spills over onto the AD's desk?  Beats me.

This is a campus with a lot of political hands in the pie, and those hands are 1) masters at underhanded dealings  2) don't care enough to hide it.  Tough to know what may or may not be going on there.

Oddly, the compliance department is one of the toughest and strictest in the business.  The Will Wade thing notwithstanding, the NCAA in the modern era has never felt the need to sanction LSU because they learn about infractions from the CD, who has already investigated, issued self-imposed sanctions, and reported up the proper channels.  I don't really see how those guys fit in with everybody else in that city.

I have no doubt that A&M used NIL, within the legal bounds, to attract players here. That, along with what has been recognized as top notch facilities, a great recruiter, etc was used to get a great class.

We are not the only program using NIL, as I’m sure we’ve all seen St Nicks star QB in the Dr Pepper National ads.

Remember, we don’t sign stars. We sign players. Some will pan out, some won’t.

Reports are these kids were smoking Mary J in the locker room. Not sure which one or when. Lots of conflicting info.
