Week 8
« on: October 19, 2022, 10:17:54 AM »
Tennessee is playing...not many will be watching.

Ole Miss @ LSU    Vegas has the Tigers -1.5....that is surprising to me.  Ole Miss' offense looks like too much for the Tigers imo.  I guess if the offense has found something we could try to make it interesting in a boat race.  Probably the Gator defense made LSU look better than they are.  I'll be there to see it in person, however it goes, but I'm expecting to leave disappointed.

Vanderbilt @ Mizzou    Pillow fight of the week?  I'd pick Missouri at home, but not confidently

Clanga @ Bama      Bama won't play so undisciplined two weeks in a row, and will be home.  Could get ugly for the cowbells

A&M @ SCar       I don't know what to make of this game.  USC seemed lifeless, then they go beat Kentucky at their place.  Both teams have at times shown signs of life and also signs of being put on hospice.  When I don't have any ideas about how teams will match up, I'll take the more talented team, which is the Aggies.  But on the road and with their ups and downs, I could be wrong.

UGA and Florida both rest up for next week.  Good thing, they need to be at their best because I'll be at my UGA buddy's house for our 4th annual Cocktail Party Viewing.  Depending on the weather, it'll either be meat of choice on the grill OR chili in the giant pot.  I demand a good show from these teams while I eat my food.

...I am assuming I am not banned from his house.  We did watch the SECCG game and that didn't go well, I wasn't able to make the NC rematch, and that worked out better, so you never know how these fans are with superstitions.

A&M is under a ton of pressure due to the much hyped recruiting class and our Jumbo sized contract for Jimbo. Obviously we’ve had a rough start to the season, and in reality we should be 5-1 or maybe a more palpable 4-2.

For A&M, our defense is extremely talented, but flawed. We have some youth on the line and in the defensive backfield but 8 games in they are playing much better. I have not watched SCar, but if their OL is suspect we will pressure their QB a lot and either flush him out of the pocket or force him into bad throws.

Our offense is in shambles. The OL is like Swiss cheese, the QB is mediocre at best, and our WR are hot and cold. Our RB, Achane, can be good to great if the OL can make space for him.

We’ve won all our games vs SCar so far in the SEC.  I’m not under any impression that the Bama game would have still come down to the last play if Bryce Young had played, but I think we will play much better on offense than we have all season. I think we can score at least 28-35, and I see SCar being held to 17-21 points.

I’m going with A&M 31 SCar 17 with the game being close until the late 3rd quarter.

Somebody gave me free tickets, which is why I'm going to this cluster.

I haven't been to a game since the A&M game to close out the regular season in 2013.  I got to see a handful of NFL stars do their thing, including Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Tre'Davious White for LSU, and Mike Evans for A&M, among probably others I'm forgetting.  Manziel was their QB at that time also.

It's actually depressing to think of all the great players since then that I missed....Fournette, Chase, Jefferson, Burrow, White, a slew of ridiculous DBs.....never saw them play in person....

....and now I'm going to watch this shipwreck.  Maybe we'll do better than I think, or at least maybe Ole Miss will have some guys who'll be NFL stars and I'll be able to say "neat, I saw them play in college."

For some reason the line went from slightly favoring A&M to slightly favoring USC. It may be that we’re starting Connor Weigman, our untested 5* QB because King got injured at Bama.

Well, I missed two entirely of course, I had said elsewhere Ole Miss seems to lose one like this between now and Bama.

Did we learn anything this past weekend?

Ole Miss is not a juggernaut and LSU is not that bad.  LSU "could" be 6-1.  The Kelly experiment seems to be at least pretty good so far.

A&M, well, what can one say?  Expectations.

Bama did about as expected, perhaps better on D than most predicted.

So the bama D is pretty good after all?  They just fell flat in kville? Unlike every other game?  Two 20s, one 26, the rest single digit and then just that one time they slept and let UT score 52?

That makes a lot more sense than UT having a pretty good O and stretching teams out, forcing them into shootouts.. sure.

UT has 10 games straight scoring 30+... that didn't have anything to do with it either...

They scored 45pts before halftime, and after retiring hooker for the game 3/4 through the second.  They could have scored 90+ with ease... im glad they didn't.  The second and third string- extremely young- needs all the reps they can get.

Like bama, UT can't do anything without their starting QB at the helm.  Even against a div1aa school.  (I still refuse to use fbs and fcs)..

That matters and why I bring it forward.  An injury to hooker and this unexpected dream season turns into a nightmare.

I'm tickled about the UGA fans... they act as if they've always been there and are par with dynasty teams... theyre good, for sure, but they are Johnny come lately's.. theyre looking down their short snouts at UT in one breath, and then the same people are putting out social media posts demanding none of their fan base sell tickets to UT fans, going as far as to say "don't let them stay with you and if you do destroy their tickets".. what a bunch of clowns- either theyre worried or they aren't....

I'm worried about UK.  It's going to be a dog fight... that rivalry has heated back up in the last few years with UK climbing as UT fell... basketball rivalry doesn't help it much either.  Theyre going to be tough.

LSU did UT no favors taking Ole miss out of contention.  A rematch, if there could be one with bama, is going to be painful.  Saban won't let that happen twice.  However, ypu can't help but like Kelly and that team... theyre starting to really click like somebody predicted they would (and was stomped down by a LSU fan for suggesting such)..

UF is last in the nation on 3rd down stops.  Dead. Last.  This coach ain't gonna work out.  He's a blowhard.  UGA should mop the floor with them- but these rivalry games are a different sort... I'm hoping it's a dog fight that hangs over uga...

USCe is starting to click, too.. question is "at what level" and that's hard to say.  They made a worn down and limping aTm look pretty bad.  Jimbo just plain sucks.  Whats happening to them, as a program, is similar to what happened at UT- too top heavy- too many prima donnas- too much arrogance backed by reputation instead of production... you can only get so many miles out of beating bama the year prior.

The Texas OSU game was a good one.  I like Texas, and I like the cowboys.  I dont have a dog in the fight but will say Texas is one decent QB away from being a damn good team.

UGA fans should be worried about the Vols, but I doubt a few thousand possible tickets sold to their fans would be decisive.  The Vols certainly can put up points and that probably is the best overall approach to beating UGA this year.  They haven't had a shoot out kind of game in a long time.  Stetson Bennett has been a bit sporadic at times (Missouri).  I think Oregon just hit a perfect storm and got knocked down so fast they couldn't play their game.

UGA basically has Florida, Tenn, and at UK, and then at MSU, so even a pretty good team might well not win out.  Sure, they are large favorites over Florida, but Dawg fans know how that can go.

Are you feeling oppressed?  Is "the man" keeping you down?

Man, you Tennessee guys have gotten sensative after being down for a decade.
