But we're factoring in terrible human beings, not just coaching ability.
O may not have invented the bagman, but he perfected it long before he ever got to LSU. He lied about Texas' A/C not working in the locker rooms. He went nuts, leaving his wife of many years, sleeping around, posting photos of his sexual escapades on social media, and propositioning the wives of members of the BoR (yes, he really did that), and was run out on a rail for it.
That doesn't even touch his coaching "prowess." Which is what most people think he was fired for, thought it wasn't (see above). Okay......won a NC, fine. But given the entirety of his tenure, it's pretty obvious that he fell ass-backwards through no intelligence, design, or intention of his own into one of the greatest QBs the sport ever saw, and one of the best receiver tandems to boot. Getting mind-numblingly lucky is not skill, and it's not a recipe for long term success. Which is why he ran both Ole Miss and LSU into the ground. He couldn't even get coordinators to come work for him by the end, getting rejected by four different DCs he attempted to hire before finally, desperately getting a guy who had never coached defense anywhere close to the LSU level. And this is at a school that had recently passed the $2 mil mark for paying coordinators, leading the nation. How toxic and worthless do you have to be if people won't come to a school known for defensive talent, with a recruiting hotbed, for $2 mil per year?
When talking about terrible coaches and terrible human beings, I feel like I've made a very strong case for him.
Also.......we hired him back on this staff, so........geaux us, I guess.
