UGA Off Season
« on: January 04, 2020, 12:46:44 PM »
Wow, that was fast, it's over already.  The season of course had good and bad, the South Carolina loss may have kept UGA out of the playoff (which might have been a blessing).  The Burrow buzz saw was, well, they sort of held LSU in check for a few minutes.  The wins over traditional rivals and Notre Dame were exciting, the ND game was really lit up.  The offense seemed to misfire way too often and not close games while the defense was relied upon to hang on late too often.

D'Andre Swift and two OLs are leaving for the draft, Fromm has not said, he had an up and down year obviously.  It might hinge on what Tua does.  They should be able to reload mostly, but the QB thing could be dicey.

The key unusual games next year are AT Alabama and UVA out of the gate.  They get Auburn and Tenn in Athens and go to Columbia twice.  They should be "pretty good" even without Fromm, but 10-2 ish.  Florida could well be quite good.

Make that 3 OL's leaving. Solomon Kindley LG declared today.  I'm not as worried about OL because that has been a key recruiting strength since Kirby arrived. Swift leaving hurts a bit, but now it's time for some young guys to step up.  Hopefully, Zues will be back to 100% by start of next year. Excited to see what this Milton kid can do. If Fromm stays i'll feel better about the offense for next year.

Key Departures so far:
-Andrew Thomas starting LT -declared early

-Isaiah Wilson Starting RT ---declared early
-Solomon Kindley-LG---------declared early
-Rodrigo Blankenship-K-------completed eligibility
-D'Andre Swift 1st team RB (would be surprised if he plays much if at all) (1216     yds    rushing, 7      TD's, 24 receptions, 216 yds, 1 TD) declared early
-Brian Herrien 2nd team RB-490 yds, 6 TD, 16 receptions, 1 TD-Declared early
-Lawrence Cager WR (injury) 33 rec, 476 yds, 4 TDS on the season. Senior

-JR Reed (injury)  54 Tackles, 1 INT, 8 passes defended. started all 13 games. (foot injury) Senior
-Tyler Clark  starting DL 2nd team all SEC-26 tackels, 2.5 sacks, 8TFL completed eligibility

-Eli Wolf- Grad Transfer TE completed eligibility

-Tyrique McGhee--played in 9 games. Completed eligibility

-Tae Crowder-LB Completed eligibility

-Tyler Simmons WR-Completed eligibility

-Charlie Woerner-TE Completed eligibility

-Justin Young-DL-----Completed eligibility

The offense will definitely have a new look and feel in 2020. We saw the defense for next year against Baylor.  Very excited about the defense next year..jury is out on offense. Hopefully, Fromm stays.

Any year you beat Florida, auburn, ten, and ND, and win a major bowl game should be a good year.

They snagged a grad transfer QB from Wake Forest who at least has experience.

That could help.

He put up good numbers and won at Wake Forest, so he's probably really good.

He could be better than their other options, we shall see.  He might find himself second string though.

The offense will be interesting next year.

I hope it's still merely "interesting" by the time the WLOCP comes around...

Yeah, no way to know, this year was a near disaster as it was.

You're already spoiled and UGA's only been really good for a few years......:72:

They have been pretty good off and on under Richt, but never good enough.  The offense was pretty bad in 2019 in my opinion.  The OL was to be world class, and they were not ... At least on the running side.

The WR situation hurt more than I expected.  Fromm may go on Day Two.

I would not draft him early.

If this was 5 years ago, you'd still have Fields, ready to step in.

As bad as UGA's offense appeared to look this year UGA still was slightly ahead in points per game against top 20 defenses than UF. (and that's with a less than stellar group of receivers) UGA played 6 teams with top 20 scoring defenses.
They averaged 23.66 pts per game against those teams.  Or +5.1 pts vs. what those teams were given up on average.

UF played 4 teams with top 20 defenses and averaged 23.25 pts per game.OR +5.5 pts vs.what those teams were given up.

I know the opinion out there was that UGA's offense underachieved and there is some truth to that, there is also an opinion that Mullen is a genius and his offense wasn't any better against top 20 defenses.

Just something i found interesting.
