So, I know the Florida game is not a gimme even in years like this one.  But defense travels they say, and usually shows up to play.

So what makes UGA's defense so good?  What's the linchpin?  We could run on Bama, why can't we run on UGA?

UGA's run defense has been quantitatively better than Alabama's (no clue about qualitative) by .7 ypp.  UF will bring the conference's best rush attack.

Conversely, neither Florida's run defense nor Georgia's rushing offense is in the top half of the conference, but they're very similarly placed within the league.

So it's strength on strength, and meh vs. meh.

All that means precisely squat.  Games are not averages of any math formulas based on data sets.  It's about personnel matchups, schemes, and who makes the adjustments quicker.  Was LSU an aberration for Florida or do the Gators have problems?  Florida neither ran well nor defended it well in their last outing, and UGA has significantly better coaching than LSU.

This is more like it.  Three of those games look interesting.  This past weekend was pitiful.

Jordan Davis at nose, he soaks up blocks and clogs the middle so their fleet linebackers can tackle.  They lead the country in scoring defense at 6.6 per game, second place Michigan is at 14.3.  Now of course all that can change with a mobile QB obviously.

I am beginning to wonder if some of their opponents were over ranked at the time (which is true) and has contributed to opinions about UGA.  Clemson has faded and Arkansas has as well, Kentucky might fade from here as well. Auburn might be their best win to date.

UGA is favored by 14.5....that's a bit much for me.  Florida has a habit of playing these things close no matter what.

If UGA wins by 2-3 TDs, that would be pretty impressive, I think.

If Florida can't run, I hope Richardson gets the bulk of the pass attempts.  I love Jones, he's waited for his turn, but the dude waits 7-8-9 beats on a 5-step drop type of pass (it's not a 5-step drop, bc it's shotgun).

If Jones' normal 4-5-6 yard scrambles and designed runs are 1-2-3 yards instead, Florida is in trouble.

Anyhow, the WLOCP is as fun as it gets.  A lot of drinking and walking and shit-talking....it's a blast.

A point of comparison, which I agree often means little to nothing:

UGA beat UK 30-16 at home.  There were zero turnovers.  UGA passed for 250 and UK passed for 192.   Rushing was 166 to 51.  Penalties were modest, and UK dominated TOP with nearly 38 minutes and were 9 for 19 on 3rd down.

UK beat UF 20-13 at home.  Each team had one turnover.  UK passed for only 87 while UF passed for 211.  Rushing was 171 to 131 in favor of UF.  UF had 115 yards in penalties to only 30, huh.

Obviously, Florida could well have won that game, though it would have been close.  Florida likely will be able to move the ball on UGA, it may come down to penalties and TOs, again, I don't know if UF can sustain many drives.

Well that sucked.

Some good things:
we didn't get shut out
we scored more points than UGA was allowing per game
we royally screwed up UGA's run D average
the rest of the schedule is super easy

Wrong on the score, but generally right about the game flow.  For the most part it wasn't as bad as the score looks.  Gonna have to start factoring in UF has a serious case of the TOs.  That's two games in a row now.

MSU over Kentucky was kind of surprising. They couldn’t do much on offense, and I didn’t think MSU was that good on defense.

Auburn has turned out to be real good. I question Kiffin going for it on 4th down so early in the game so many times. I’m not a big fan of the up tempo offense either. OM seemed really rushed on those 4th down plays.

We play both teams in the next few weeks, I guess we’ll see how improved our team really is.

Did anybody else think Corral was out for good?  That ankle looked painful. Not sure what they did to him behind the scenes I just hope he’s not playing when he really shouldn’t be.
