There's a thread on the B1G board but I thought it might be interesting to put one here on the SEC board too, to get the perspective of a different audience.

I saw this recently, it's an interesting idea as the schools move ever-closer to a pay-for-play/employee status model for collegiate sports teams.

They were going to raise prices on us anyway, due to our recent resurgence nationally.  And, it was already stupid high to begin with.

How the average family can afford to go to a game doesn't register with me.  My kids are grown now, and I'm doing better financially, of course, but I still bristle at the costs.  Part of that being I'm am 6 hours away in the western part of the state --- hotels, food, gas, etc. which drives my costs to astronomical levels.  All of that said, I limit the crew to 1 game per year, and that's every bit of $2,000-$2500 bucks conservatively.

If I were closer, and could just go to the game, and then go home afterwards, it wouldn't be near the same issue for me.  If I were a season ticket holder, I wouldn't like the extra 10%, but it wouldn't stop me at this point in my life.

The bigger issue for me, and probably those like me, are these predatory secondary market vultures.  They can rot in hell as far as I am concerned.  3-5 times the face value of tickets, plus their outrageous fees.

I'm not as far, but I'm in the same boat.  I have to gag when I see top game prices.  How can the average fan afford that?

10 years ago when all my kids were still dependent --- I couldn't.

And that's when we sucked and tickets were much lower.

I dropped my season tickets in 2017.  Took the kids to lots of games when they were little, and I could just ride them in on my shoulders. :)

Now if I want to take the kids, all I can do is grab tickets to the REALLY bad games, the Kansas or Iowa State type games.  Those are still affordable.

My kids are grown, but my wife (also an alumnus) cares nothing for CFB and never really was crazy about a lot of the college/university things that I care about.  I might go to a game with old college buddies or other acquaintances but it's a me thing, not an US thing.

My wife is a football nut, and she'd blow our life savings on Vols, and Tennessee Titans games, if I wasn't the CFO of the household.

My wife loves college football in general, and enjoyed watching games, even at evil devil-worshiping t.u. :)

But we also used to always get to at least one Ag home game per year, before kids.  Now we get to a couple games in College Station every 5 years or so.

Some Ag friends of ours are trying to convince us to go with them to the Texas-TAMU game on Thanksgiving weekend.  They had a line on tickets, but then told us the price.  Even my wife was like, "Nope, not even if A&M wins, would it be worth it."  So we'll be watching on TV this year. :)

Cough it up.  What was the price tag each?

Ugh.

Goalline seats on the lower deck, they wanted $1200 per ticket.  Looking at the secondary market on ticketcity it looks like that's actually a little lower than current market value, so I guess our friends were getting us a "friend's discount."

Still too rich for my blood!

Great googly moogly.  Shocking.

Was curious for comparative sake.  It would be a great game to be at, but damn.  I'm with you....PASS.

I'm fortunate enough (and old enough! ) that I've been to many, many UT-TAMU games, both in College Station and in Austin.  It's always very exciting, tons of emotion and drama.  I've also been to a lot of Ag games against opponents other than Texas, and there's no doubt that the crowd always has a little something extra for the hated rival from Austin.

I've heard buy haven't seen of QR codes being attached to players helmets... apparently you are intended to zoom in, snap a Pic, go to the site, and donate $$$ to the player.

Freakin amazing how folks can come up with stuff when the motivation is purely money. World peace would be something to put about half the effort into, as it would be solved pretty quickly (except for those without QR codes seeking to get some from those with) ....

Ugh.  Used to be that I could go any given weekend to DKR and scalp a ticket for just over $100, often a pretty decent seat.  I never had to worry about planning for that weekend, or getting a ticket beforehand.  And that was back during the Colt McCoy years when Texas was very good and not far removed from a NC.  In fact, I and my buddies made two games during the '05 NC year by purchasing from scalpers outside the stadium for the same amount.  In those years I saw Baylor, Nebraska, Tech, OSU a couple times, and some others I'm forgetting.  Not scrub games, in other words.

Granted, $100 then would be more like $200 now, but I'd still consider that a good price and worth my time.

It sounds like football-flation has hit (hurt?) us all.  I move to change our conference slogan to "It Just Costs More."
