Next team not named Alabama or Georgia to win the SEC
« on: January 01, 2022, 06:11:18 PM »
So it seems that Alabama and Georgia may take turns winning it awhile yet.

Obviously it hasn’t all been about the Tide and Dogs with LSU and Auburn winning in recent years.

Been awhile for Florida. Longer for UTenn, and after that group it dwindles to very long stretches for most members. Obviously A&M has never won, but this is only our 10th year of conference play. Came closer in year 1 than any other, lost to UF early, then beat Bama on the road.

Ark-Never won. Did play in CCG 4x
Ole Miss-1960’s. Never played in CCG
Miss State-1940’s Played in CCG 1x
Kentucky-1970’s. Never played in CCG
Mizzou-never won, played in CCG 1x
SCAR-Never won, played in CCG 1x.
OU-TBD
UTexas-TBD

I went ahead and listed ou and Texas on there since they will probably start play in ‘22. I was hoping A&M would sneak in once before they joined, but I also thought we had about ten more years.

Mizzou played twice as I recollect.

I would say the Aggies.

I’d like to think it.

I also think it will depend on how the expanded sec stages itself. Ala and au goes East , that certainly helps.

Maybe Arkansas can edge their way back up. OU will be breaking in a new coach, maybe it’s their time to take a dip down? 20 years is a long time to play at an elite level.

I like how the Hogs are built, but doubt they can snare enough elite talent to reach the CG.  But they already played in it before.

A&M is closest.

Well be breaking in another new QB next year. Either King or Weigman. I wasn’t impressed with King in the handful of games he played in. He broke his ankle on a very non-physical play, which gives me pause on his toughness. He also threw 4 picks against Kent State.

There is Max Johnson from LSU here now. He’s experienced, just not sure how good he will be.

A&M should be that team, at the moment.

But I'm predicting a usual suspect like Florida or LSU will do it first anyway.  By the time Bama and UGA are unseated those two teams stand to be in much better shape than they're currently in.

Texas in 2023 :)
Eh. Hellish the thought. Although if history repeats itself if Texas were to win their new conference in their first year over the most powerful program that ever walked the earth then maybe A&M wins it in ‘25?

We still playing next year ?

I still think it'll be 2022/3 for Texas and OU, despite what the schools are saying officially right now. If not though, then it'll be 2023/4 as the first year at the very latest.

Oh and my official answer would be Florida or LSU-- the usual suspects.

Until Bama ebbs, it's going to be a tough lift for other teams barring an upset or Superman at QB for someone.

I agree but it's not like Bama has finished completely unbeaten in the SEC every year since St. Nick got there.  Heck, there have even been several other SEC teams win the SEC W and win the CFP/BCS.

I always wondered if it could be like Mack Brown.  Absolutely great football until it's not and then sudden mediocrity.  Or do you think he'll sense it coming and retire first rather than tarnish the image?

The other thing that was weird about Mack Brown is that it's not like anybody else kinda stepped their game up and took their place.  And please don't say Baylor or TCU.

Auburn has a shot, they seem to have quirky teams, capable of putting up a great game against Bama.  And they often have ruined a great UGA season.

The list of which teams have no realistic shot is pretty clear, and then there is a muddled middle, right now, they have programs that can catch lightning one year and zoom.

Can the Vols get there with their current offensive scheme?  Will Napier get Florida back soonish?  Kelly and LSU?  Can Arkansas collect enough talent to be more than just a dangerous opponent?  SEC Champs have to recruit at an elite level for several years, I think, in addition to the usual.
