Northwestern WR Bennett Skowronek enters
He led Northwestern in receiving in 2017, and was 2nd in 2018, including the diving catch against Iowa to send Northwestern to the CCG.
Was a team captain this year, but suffered a season ending injury against MSU in the third game. Would be immediately eligible as a 5th year grad transfer

Art Sikowski (Rutgers QB) withdrew from the transfer portal after Schiano was hired
-
Felipe Franks is available, if he doesn't go for the draft. Still a project after 2 years of playing.

I'm thinking Schiano might ask him to go back in.

There is a reason a lot of the schools that offered backed away (mine included).
-
Wasn't aware of that maybe he grew up some away from home and getting an attitude adjustment

Minnesota had a couple reserve offensive linemen enter.
Maryland had 4 backups enter

Creaning, to make room for the monstrous class coming in. When you have 24 (currently) commits and 12 seniors on the roster, something has to give. So far, there have been 2 "tough discussions", so there will be more of those.
Probably gonna be at least some attrition due to injuries, academics, and such. That happens to every team.
-
Is this in effect a new way to get rid of seniors who haven't produced and likely won't?
-
4th year juniors are the most likely targets.
-
Is this in effect a new way to get rid of seniors who haven't produced and likely won't?
It’s not really a new way. It’s just a way the old guys who were gently or not gently pushed off rosters are put more in our attention.

been going on in the SEC since Scholarship limits were enforced

I actually like that Langan kid. They should stick with him.

Abba?
Like, the Swedish supergroup ABBA?
I love those guys!

So let me get this right you think ABBA is a super group but The Doors suck?Dood I don't know what you're really putting in the smoker but you have to take a Breather. That's even weird for Austin

I don't know if I'd go with super, though I would be willing to say that many thought they were "Supp-ah-ah Troop-ah-ah".

Purdue WR/DB Tyler Hamilton entered the portal. Redshirt sophomore that was passed up on the depth chart by underclassment at WR, then decided to go to DB, but was passed up on the depth chart by underclassmen there as well.
One of those "sorry it didn't work out for you, kid, but we wish you the best" sort of situations for Purdue fans IMHO.

-
Purdue WR Jordan Bonner enters the portal.
Unlike Tyler Hamilton, I think more was expected of Bonner. He came in as a pretty decently ranked 3* recruit, but even with all the WR injuries this year didn't crack the rotation. He could have been a decent depth piece, but I doubt with the rest of the WR room that he'd ever get significant minutes, so I don't fault him for seeking another option.
-
Nebraska wide receiver Andre Hunt and tight end Katerian LeGrone have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, a source confirms to 247Sports.
This comes one day after it was reported that both players would face a 2 1/2-year long suspension from the school following an investigation into sexual assault allegations made against the men by a fellow student in August. The university report was obtained by ESPN and Outside the Lines. Hunt and Legrone did not play for Nebraska this season after being suspended in late August, but the reason for the suspensions was not publicly known until now.
-
Iowa has had three already: RB Henry Geil, LB Jayden McDonald (already transferring to Troy) and DB Joe Ludwig. My guess, is due to Tyler Goodson's improvement, there will probably be another RB or two.
-
Nebraska walk-on quarterback Andrew Bunch's name appeared in the transfer portal on Monday.
The QB who started a game against Troy in 2018 also was in the portal after last season, before electing to come back to Lincoln. Originally out of Thompson's Station, Tennessee, Bunch still has one more season of eligibility.

Isaiah Stalbird is the latest Husker name to show up in the transfer portal.
The Kearney native was an active part of Nebraska special teams units in 2019, with the walk-on also working his way on to the 2-deep in the secondary as a redshirt freshman.
He finished the season with 13 tackles, including 1 1/2 for loss. His 10 tackles on special teams were the most on the team in that phase of the game last season. Most notably, he blocked a punt and was credited with a forced fumble on another punt rush against Northern Illinois in Nebraska's 44-8 win early in the season.

Heh! That surname looks like it might have been "Stahlvogel" ("steel bird") back in the Old Country.

Tarik Black in the transfer portal.
If DPJ and Collins come back, no big deal. If they don't, it's Ronnie Bell and a whole lot of unknowns.
-
Ya this one is a head scratcher.IMO Collins goes Sunday and DPJ comes back - Black should see the field but maybe not with Bell and Johnson in the mix.Lot of jockeying for position and maybe he wants guaranteed playing time

Would you want to see him in Madison? I mean, if Cephus leaves, might not be a bad idea.
I think UW is going to lose some WR from their roster, due to transfer and/or attrition (4 years in and no impact, aside from a degree).
-
NU offered Nouili a preferred walk-on spot before he picked CSU last season. After the Rams fired the coach who recruited Nouili — Mike Bobo — he decided to enter the transfer portal Monday.
He wasn’t there long. By Friday he had announced his transfer to Nebraska, and he'll join the program as a preferred walk-on. A conversation with coach Scott Frost and offensive line coach Greg Austin cinched his decision. Nouili, a left guard at Colorado State, will be given the chance to compete for the starting job at Nebraska, and that’s good enough for him.
“I’m going to try and earn a scholarship as soon as possible,” the 6-foot-4, 283-pound Nouili said Friday. “I think I can do that.”
Nouili said he’ll submit to the NCAA a waiver for immediate eligibility so that he doesn’t have to sit out a year. He plans on finishing the semester at Colorado State then enrolling at NU for the spring semester. He’ll participate in winter conditioning and spring practices.

There was just an article wondering what happened to him this year.
-
Does not have an injury. Was playing in a scheme with a strong safety and free safety...was almost always in the box and was good at it.
New scheme this year with more single high safety and bullet, and Werner has won the spot by being good against the run and able to cover backs and TEs.
Schiano should go hard for him, although he may end up at ND.

I'm assuming there aren't many from Husker-land docking him for that. Martinez was full of potential and Burrow was pretty unknown at that point in time.

That's also something you could say if you know you're not getting a kid - makes you sound like you're loyal or some crap.

Oops.
It's worth noting that Burrows numbers as a fourth-year junior were pretty comparable to Martinez's as a true freshman.
2,617 yards, 17 TDs, 8 INTs, 64.6 percent completions, 7.5 YPA, 139.5 rating, 629 rushing yards 8 TDs
OR
2,894 yards, 16 TDs, 5 INTs, 57.8 percent, 7.6 YPA, 133.2 rating, 399 yards rushing, 7 TDs
Obviously unlikely Martinez ever produces like Burrow this year.

20-20, is hindsight.

I'd like to think Hurts would have made our season better too, but I don't think anyone could have been successful behind our OL with all the shuffling and injuries.

Rumor is he might be going to Rutgers?
Also read on another board his approach had not always been the best, which maybe led to some friction with coaches. I only mention it because UW has only two returning proven WRs. One is 5-11, the other seemed to have talent as a freshman and has become less of a factor each season. PT was there for the taking.
Oh well. I'll miss that zone read package they gave him.

Indiana OT Coy Cronk enters the transfer portal as a grad transfer.

This is an interesting one for Boiler fans (hence why I'm posting instead of our lone IU fan here). Cronk is from Lafayette, wanted to come to Purdue, and inexplicably was never offered by Darrell Hazell. Apparently there were some hard feelings about that.
Of course, Darrell Hazell is no longer in West Lafayette, and Purdue could use help on the OL.
I still consider it a bit of a long shot for him to come home to Purdue, given the history, but maybe he wants to finish his career where he wanted to start it.
-
He was also probably going to be moved to guard with the graduation of Stepaniak and Matthew Bedford’s emergence at LT. From what I’ve heard he was not all in on this despite that probably being his position in the NFL should he get that far.

I was trying to tag you in that post but couldn't remember your handle... I kept thinking it started with "Austin" because of Austin Peay, not realizing it ended with the school not started with it...
I had heard the same regarding a potential move to guard. That's actually one of the reasons I think a transfer to Purdue may be less likely. Our tackle spots are more shored up for 2020 than our guard spots. If Herrmanns was gone and we had a huge LT hole to fill, I would definitely think our chances were much higher. He could slot into the RT spot, as his competition will be RS Soph Will Bramel, but IIRC that RS Soph started all this year as a RS Fr, so it's not clear that Cronk would automatically beat him out.
That said, I also don't know if Cronk still harbors a grudge from Hazell spurning him... So that's a factor too.

Surely someone will transfer to Miss St. Now. That qb roster is pretty sparse even wo the Pirate coming.

A lot of rumors that Peyton Ramsey will be transferring. Fresno State is probably looking like a good destination for him in every way but distance.

Michigan S Jalyn Kelly-Powell in the portal. IIRC his UM commitment was big in also getting Ambry Thomas, that they were a package deal. MSU was in decent shape there at one point.

The rumor is that Coy Cronk will be at Iowa State next year.
-
RS Soph QB Peyton Mansell will be leaving Iowa. His wife is a Baylor pitcher and he is from TX so look for him to end up closer to there. It sounds like he may be graduating this spring (impressive) so he should have two years eligibility remaining without sitting out a year.
That leaves IA thin at QB with a RS Soph to be Petras penciled in as the starter and RS Frosh Padilla as the current backup. Incoming 4/3* Freshman Duece Hogan (https://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2019/12/18/21012914/iowa-football-recruiting-4-star-qb-deuce-hogan-signs-with-hawkeyes-bhgp) figures to be in the mix.

Why the mass exodus of Sooners players is a good thing
By Jason Kersey Jan 17, 2020
The Athletic
NORMAN, Okla. — On its face, it all seems dire.
Since the calendar turned to 2019 (i.e., since the arrival of defensive coordinator Alex Grinch), 19 Oklahoma players have entered the NCAA’s transfer portal and 15 were defensive players; the latter number is 16 if you also include Michael Thompson, who was recruited as a defensive tackle but switched to the offensive line at OU.
This week, four OU defensive players — defensive back Jordan Parker and linebackers Mark Jackson, Levi Draper and Ryan Jones — entered the transfer portal. All four were four-star recruits. Jackson started seven games in 2018, but barely saw the field as a true senior in 2019 and redshirted. Draper and Jones were 2017 signees who had made little impact. Parker started eight games as a true freshman in 2016, but a preseason ACL tear the next season and other injuries derailed what once seemed like a promising career. In 2019, he didn’t even dress out for the final seven games.
Here’s what everyone needs to understand about this mass exodus: It’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s a good thing for all parties.
These are the kinds of things that happen at programs that want to win national championships. Coaches at programs such as Alabama, LSU and Ohio State — the kinds of programs Oklahoma aspires to reach at the tippy-top of the college football hierarchy — frequently have these kinds of difficult conversations. I’m not talking about just flat-out “cutting” guys, but sitting down and being brutally honest with them.
Every scholarship freed up to sign a new player is critical. On the level of college football at which Oklahoma believes it should be playing — seriously contending for and winning national championships — programs simply can’t afford to continue using scholarships on guys who aren’t going to play.
A lot of this certainly has to do with development, too, and it’s clear that the previous defensive staff was not developing talent well enough. But entering his second season, Grinch and his staff need as many of their own guys as they can accommodate.
If that seems distasteful or unpleasant, well, welcome to the world of big-time college football. This is what it takes in 2020 to win a national championship — something Oklahoma historically is familiar with but hasn’t achieved in nearly two decades.
It should be noted that these things aren’t nearly as unpleasant as they may seem from the outside. If Draper and Jones weren’t playing much by the time they were third-year sophomores — especially on an Oklahoma defense that has for years been in desperate need of depth and talent — they probably weren’t going to play. It’s better, too, for those guys to find a place where they can get on the field.
Programs like Alabama and Ohio State don’t recruit with the idea that they’ll be relying on a bunch of fifth-year seniors. They recruit guys who they expect to have for three years.
After these latest four portal entries, Oklahoma is sitting at 81 scholarships for next season, meaning four more spots have opened up for either February signees or incoming transfers. And there’s a chance that more defensive guys could hit the portal before long.
The NCAA’s dead period ended Friday, meaning Oklahoma coaches were back out on the road to finalize their 2020 class and continue working on the 2021 and ’22 classes. The Sooners signed 22 players in December and have one commitment — four-star defensive end Reggie Grimes Jr., a national top-100 prospect — expected to sign in February.
Oklahoma’s defensive depth does seem ominous moving forward after all these defections, but in the long run, this probably is a good thing for both the program and the players. And you can start to see the level of player Grinch is attracting to Norman. Just this week, 2022 linebacker Kobie McKinzie (6 feet 3 and 227 pounds as a high school sophomore) committed to the Sooners. McKinzie, from Lubbock (Texas) Cooper, could be a national top-50 player in the 2022 class.
Oklahoma has reached the College Football Playoff four times, and that is a remarkable achievement. But the Sooners have yet to get past the semifinal round, and to take that next step as a program, OU must have elite — and not, as cornerbacks coach Roy Manning tweeted Friday morning, “pretty good, kinda good, or maybe good” — talent up and down its roster.

Back on the road today! 🚘
Need ELITE DUDES! Not pretty good, kinda good, or maybe good. Why? Bc this isn’t a pretty good, kinda good, maybe good PROGRAM. This is @OU_Football! The BAR here is set to ELITE and it ain’t changing! #THESTANDARD #OUDNA🧬

And to put together a roster on that level, sometimes parting ways with guys who aren’t contributing is necessary.
Boulware moving on?
Multiple reports have Oklahoma running backs coach and special teams coordinator Jay Boulware joining the staff at Texas; he reportedly will be the Longhorns’ special teams coordinator and tight ends coach.
Boulware, a Texas alum, first joined the OU staff in 2013 as special teams coordinator and tight ends coach. He switched to running backs in 2015 and has coached guys like Samaje Perine, Joe Mixon, Rodney Anderson, Trey Sermon and Kennedy Brooks — all of whom have excelled under Boulware’s tutelage. [Note: Boulware has been announced as an assistant at UT.]
But Oklahoma’s running back recruiting has dipped a bit since Boulware took over from Cale Gundy, who now coaches inside receivers. Perine, Mixon and Anderson were Gundy recruits. And just last month, the Sooners lost a pledge from four-star running back Jase McClellan of Aledo (Texas) High. A national top-50 prospect, McClellan had been committed to OU for 2½ years before he signed with Alabama in December.
Since news of Boulware’s apparent departure hit Twitter, many have speculated that a natural, no-brainer replacement might be DeMarco Murray, the former Oklahoma superstar running back who just finished his first season as running backs coach at Arizona. On the surface, that absolutely makes sense. Murray, who enjoyed a successful NFL career, still owns the Oklahoma career records for all-purpose yards (6,718) and touchdowns (65).
Maybe Murray coaching Oklahoma running backs would be a resounding success. But it’s also important to remember that just because a guy was a superstar player at a school doesn’t necessarily mean he would be a great coach at the same place.
First, Murray has one season of college coaching under his belt. Programs like Oklahoma don’t typically hire assistants with so little experience. There’s a reason it took Bob Stoops so long to hire Calvin Thibodeaux as his defensive line coach. Stoops had a d-line coach opening in 2013, ’15 and ’16, and didn’t hire Thibodeaux until the third time, when Diron Reynolds unexpectedly left for Stanford after just one season in Norman. There’s also a question as to how good a recruiter Murray would be.
In November, colleague Ari Wasserman wrote a deeply reported piece trying to figure out why Arizona has failed so badly at signing the best talent within its state. For example, Arizona coach Kevin Sumlin’s son plays at powerhouse Salpointe Catholic, located a mere 2.2 miles from the UA campus. Salpointe had two national top-100 prospects, but five-star running back Bijan Robinson signed with Texas and four-star safety Lathan Ransom signed with Ohio State. Murray was Arizona’s lead recruiter on Robinson, and Murray may have stopped by briefly at Salpointe twice.
“I feel like they should have been here a lot more,” Robinson told Wasserman. “… ’Cause, you know, Texas and Ohio State are so far from here and they’re here all the time. I constantly talk to them all the time. You know, I didn’t have that same feel with U of A. I’ll talk to those coaches all the time from Texas. I barely ever texted the U of A coaching staff.”
Again, maybe Murray would be successful as an Oklahoma assistant. Maybe, as a former player, Murray would have the passion and fire needed to recruit at the elite level at which Oklahoma expects to recruit. But maybe hiring a veteran assistant with proven recruiting ability is a better move.

Cruickshank to Rutgers. Hes a tri state guy.
Yeah, this is on the UW offseason thread. Sounds like it was homesickness. The kid is from Brooklyn.
It's tough to lose the best KR in the conference to another conference school.
-
would have considered blocking a transfer to a Big Ten West school?
-
Nah. That's not PC's style. The kid won't play next year - he'll have to redshirt, which he did not do in Madison. So he has 2 years left. UW plays there in 2021, and that's it.
-
cool, it should be about what's best for the student

-
Nebraska's offseason attrition continued Friday as defensive back Tony Butler confirmed to The World-Herald he is entering the transfer portal.
Butler, who would have been a redshirt senior for the upcoming season, played in 27 games during his Husker career, mostly on special teams. The native of Lakewood, Ohio, finishes with three total tackles. He appeared in four games last season and traveled to every road game.
The defender arrived at Nebraska as a three-star prospect and top-100 cornerback in the 2016 class, according to the 247Sports composite. His departure follows similar announcements last week from offensive lineman John Raridon and linebacker Pernell Jefferson that they would not return.
NU now has 85 known scholarship players by the Journal Star's count. The program can add up to two more scholarship players as part of its 2020 class and could also put incoming freshman linebacker Isaac Gifford on scholarship when the fall semester begins, so there will be more attrition from the scholarship ranks before September rolls around.
-
Iowa State's quarterback room lost depth Saturday when redshirt sophomore Re-al Mitchell announced his intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Mitchell, who signed with Iowa State in the 2018 recruiting class, spent two seasons with the Cyclones. After enrolling early, Mitchell redshirted in 2018 before seeing limited action as Iowa State's backup during the 2019 season. Mitchell was set to enter the 2020 season as the No. 2 quarterback behind returning starter Brock Purdy.
While Mitchell signed early in the 2018 recruiting cycle, Iowa State eventually added Purdy later in the cycle to fill out the quarterback room. Purdy emerged as a true freshman in 2018 and was regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in college football in 2019 as he passed for nearly 4,000 yards and broke virtually all of Iowa State's single-season passing records. Mitchell appeared in five games, completing 2 of 4 passes for 14 yards and a touchdown while rushing 11 times for 100 yards and one touchdown.

Hell, do you guys think a HC at a P5 program would pull resources from HS kids to focus solely on potential transfers? Sort of like Calipari at UK in hoops - the 1-year wonders that have had ups and downs in terms of success.

Sort of like Snyder at KSU going heavy on JC transfers...but with more talented and/or less problematic players.
-
It's a niche that could be exploited if done the right way
if it gets started and some transferring players have success and therefore the program has some success, it could gain traction and become a thing

Fred Hoiberg did it in basketball at Iowa State, and that was before the portal. I imagine he will hit it even harder at Nebraska.
Football is probably a little tougher because you need a pipeline in the trenches. If your basketball roster only goes 6-7 deep, and is maybe a little guard heavy, it's not ideal, but you can work around it, play small, etc. If you have 6 OL on scholarship, you are in trouble.
-
all true, but the Hawkeyes are picking up an Olineman from transfer
wouldn't have to turn over the roster, but if you could add 3 or 4 starters per side
-
Jaylin Bradley's name is now appearing in the transfer portal.
The running back had one of the more accomplished careers in Nebraska high school football while at Bellevue West, but has been mostly behind the scenes during the past three seasons as a Husker.
Bradley played in one game last season, carrying it twice for eight yards in the win over Maryland, after redshirting in 2018. It appeared that he might take off in Lincoln after his true freshman season in 2017, where he showed flashes while playing in seven games, carrying it 24 times for 93 yards. He was also one of Nebraska's better kick return options that season.
-

Yeah, Coy Cronk from IU. Good pickup for Iowa.
We discussed him earlier because he's from West Lafayette and wanted to go to Purdue, but Hazell never offered him. IMHO there was some bad blood there. Some thought he might "return home" now that Hazell is gone and Brohm took over, but apparently one of his requirements was not playing against IU, his former team. Iowa doesn't have IU on the schedule this year...
...unless they both make the B1GCCG. :57:
-
that would be an interesting matchup!
-
all true, but the Hawkeyes are picking up an Olineman from transfer

Yeah, but to totally rely on that for trench play, I don't think is sustainable.
-
probably not, but if you got one starter a season it could help
I assume Bill Synder had maybe one starter per season if that from the JUCOs
-
Yeah, but to totally rely on that for trench play, I don't think is sustainable.
Agreed. You can absolutely go plug a hole here and there, but to consistently rely on transfers would need to be limited to smaller position rooms where recruiting misses are most painful.
For example, even trend laggard Ferentz has been relying on grad transfer punters for years. The two years he didn't land one, 2017-2018, Iowa was sub-100 nationally in punting.
-
The landscape of college football has been shifting over the last couple of years, and a proposed change by the Big Ten would continue that shift. The conference is looking to give more freedom to athletes who want to transfer.
Currently, undergraduate transfers aren’t always granted immediate eligibility when they transfer to a new school. The Big Ten is proposing a policy that would allow all its student-athletes a one-time transfer in which they would be granted immediate eligibility, according to a report from CBS Sports. Currently, athletes in 20 NCAA sports are allowed a one-time transfer. Football, men’s and women’s basketball, ice hockey, and baseball are the only sports that don’t allow that.
Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel believes it’s unfair to the athletes in those five sports that they don’t have the same level of freedom as their peers. Manuel wants to make sure that each player has at least one opportunity to change schools without any issues.
-
Awesome.
Wisconsin and Iowa can develop kids for 3 years, and OSU and Michigan can come get them when they are ready to play.
-
Indiana backup RB Ronnie Walker in the portal. He was a 4* recruit out of HS who chose IU over MSU and Virginia, but he got passed by fellow true freshman Stevie Scott, and never really became a factor. Still, MSU so thin at the position, I'd give him a shot.
-
Hopefully they do some guys develop a little later
-
NC State OG Joshua Fedd-Jackson enters the transfer portal. PFF rated him as one of the best run blockers in the nation. He's a NJ kid, who IIRC originally was favored to go to Michigan. OL is probably the one area on offense UM could use some immediate impact players this year. Might be worth noting.

90% of the P5 programs could use a stud on the OL this coming season
-

Yes, but few of them are top 10-15 teams who at one point were leading in your recruitment

hopefully, Coach Frost and UNL are in the discussion!!!
-
Redshirt freshman wide receiver Darien Chase has entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal.
A Nebraska team spokesperson confirmed the new to HuskerOnline on Friday.
Chase saw action in four games as a true freshman, playing a total of 52 offensive snaps according to PFF College. He had one catch for 13 yards in 2019.
Chase was also recruited by former Husker offensive coordinator Troy Walters, who was replaced this off-season by Matt Lubick.
The 6-foot-1, 200 pound Chase becomes the eighth player to leave the Huskers for the transfer portal since the 2019 season ended. Chase is also the first member of Nebraska's 2019 recruiting class to leave the program.

Are these guys who would see little PT and are therefore just clearing space for better players when they leave?
-
not sure, that is what I feel is the case, but the Huskers haven't been able to develop much WR talent lately
Stanley Morgan, JD Spielman, and not much else since before Frost got here
-
It looks like Peyton Ramsey is going to end up at Northwestern. Good for him. I'm glad he doesn't play IU this year.
-
Why did he want out in the first place?
I wonder what Hunter Johnson is thinking.
-

That he shouldn't have been quite so awful?

5 STARZ!!
Anyway, former Badger OLB Christian Bell grad-transfers to the Fighting Lovie's (new mascot!!). He transferred to UW from Bama, where he wouldn't see the field. He saw it a little in Madison, but not much, and he wanted more. So, on the move again, and apparently is looking forward to playing his old team.
It will be interesting for him to be on the losing side of that matchup for the 2nd straight season. Not many get that opportunity. Heh.

Penix is the clear cut starter.
-
And one injury away from not being that.
-
True, but Ramsey also felt that he deserved to be a starter and this past season definitely bore that out. In addition, Jack Tuttle, former Elite 11 QB who transferred in from Utah, was and is looking like an upgrade as a backup and probable future starting QB.
-
And one injury away from not being that.
Yes, but that doesn't seem to matter anymore.
Didn't Trevor Lawrence get knocked out of the game literally the week after Kelly Bryant entered the portal?
-
Oklahoma RB Trey Sermon in the portal. He's from Georgia, but I imagine OSU might take a swing
-
Yes, but that doesn't seem to matter anymore.
Didn't Trevor Lawrence get knocked out of the game literally the week after Kelly Bryant entered the portal?
Yep, and Lawrence was healthy the rest of the way and won a national title. (The Bryant thing was like 40 percent on the coaches TBH)
There is a certain fatalism to QBs seeing someone younger or even one year ahead supersede them. But to a degree, players often know. And it takes a kid wired one way to make such a choice. (The same way a kid walks on and likely ensures he'll play relatively little competitive basketball)
-
Oklahoma RB Trey Sermon in the portal. He's from Georgia, but I imagine OSU might take a swing
Scott Frost is looking for warm bodies in his RB room
-
I hope some school looks at former Badger RB Bradrick Shaw. He's a grad transfer who just had too many injuries in his career. He could be very useful for teams looking for help at the position.
-
Oklahoma RB Trey Sermon in the portal. He's from Georgia, but I imagine OSU might take a swing
That he is headed to The OSU is the most common guess at this end.
I wish he weren't leaving. He's a good guy and a good leader in the locker room. He's no Adrian Peterson, but he's a good back.
-
Receiver Jaevon McQuitty has entered the transfer portal after his exit from the team was initially described as a medical retirement.
-
Receiver Jaevon McQuitty has entered the transfer portal after his exit from the team was initially described as a medical retirement.
His name is McQuitty, not McHurty
-
Iowa RB Henry Geil in the transfer portal. He got 15 carries in his first two games as a true freshman in 2018, and hasn't played since.
-
Indiana lands Stanford grad transfer DT Jovann Swann. He has one year to play. He’s an Indy area native that spurned IU for Stanford four years ago. This quote from him speaks volumes about Tom Allen’s predecessor
“If there had been a coach like Coach Allen in Bloomington four years ago, I think my decision-making process would’ve been a little bit different to be honest.”
-
Good pickup for IU, and yeah, that's saying something right there.
-
DT Cavon Butler, from Toledo, OH, entered the transfer portal from Kentucky today. He committed early to Kentucky, but there were academic concerns, MSU and OSU offered late, and he visited both. It was never clear if the academic issues cleared up, but it appeared late that he was going to flip to one or the other, but then at the last minute signed with Kentucky anyway.
He redshirted last year as a true freshman (played in 1 game), so I think he would be eligible immediately, with 4 years of eligibility. Not sure if any academic issues linger.
-
former FIVE STARZ USC QB JT Daniels in the transfer portal. Daniels was the #1 player overall and #1 QB in the 2019 class but he graduated high schoola year early and reclassified to the 2018 class and was still a FIVE STARZ! He was the #3 QB behind Trevor and Fields - and the #16 player overall in the 2018 class.
Daniels had an OK true frosh season starting at QB for USC- not great - not terrible - and then had a season ending injury in game 2 of his sophomore season and watched a true freshman Kedon Slovis way out-perform Daniels’ true freshman season from 2018- and instead of sticking around to compete and win his job back- transfer portal baby.
Watch Harbaugh go after this guy. Because: that’s just so Jim Harbaugh.
-
Taulia Tagovailoa entered the portal.
With Lock's relationship with the family, and our need at QB, Maryland fans are hopeful.
Since Hurts came to watch a basketball game at Maryland, then tipped his hat and left for Oklahoma, I'm not as optimistic.

I've read some speculation that he might be transferring to the Miami Hurricanes to be closer to his brother. The entire family moved to Alabama from Hawaii to follow Tua to Alabama. Looks like they might be doing it again.

has there been any news on him? He would be an instant plug and play starter. Michigan could use that guy badly.

Son of a bitch. Reading all the PFF breakdowns on him and checking out a couple of clips on YouTube- that dude would've been an instant high quality All-Conference type starter at guard anywhere he decided to go. That sucks.
-

Yeah. Seeing this on the Terps board as well.
One donor plays golf a lot with higher ups at UMD, and says done to UMD.
Another reporter for UMD homed in FL, says S Florida (location) is his destination.
We'll see.
I'd rather have Caleb Williams though.

According to the report from 247Sports, there were 680 FBS players who entered their name in the transfer portal during the 2018-19 cycle. Of that group, 311 committed to another FBS program while 367 committed to an FCS school, a junior college, another division or stopped playing football entirely.
That means that 54.3 percent of the FBS players who entered the portal did not play football at that same level. All 680 players were ranked three-star recruits or higher out of high school.

possibly more than a few players who entered the portal

The kid can play. BTW, Hurts asked Saban for advice on his move and Saban pointed him to OU. Told him he would be surrounded by better talent there.
-
Nebraska received a transfer on Wednesday when South Dakota receiver Levi Falck announced on Twitter he will continue his career at NU. He’ll presumably be a walk-on for the Huskers.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Falck caught nine passes for 85 yards last season for the Coyotes. In 2018, he caught 45 passes for 492 yards and two touchdowns.

I saw something earlier he was leaning that way. Mathis should transfer out I think. Maybe we should view UGA as the "Cradle of QBs" now?
Georgia is also holding a commitment from 5-star prospect Brock Vandergriff of Bogart.

There's a certain art to piling up highly-rated QB prospects and then letting them transfer out over a few years.

JT Daniels was unsuccessful in competing and staying healthy for playing time at USC but he’ll somehow has a better chance at Georgia Vs the SEC...:73:
This is where I ask what Georgia is thinking? Could’ve used his scholarship elsewhere.

I doubt it.

I guess Mathis had some sort of brain surgery? I feel bad for him - he was pledged to OSU but flipped at the last second amid rumors Fields was coming. He expressly said it was about their depth chart, which isn't looking nearly as friendly now.
-
He had an anuerysm, it was serious, emergency surgery last spring. I don't see any room for him at UGA. I thought they would be fine with the Wake Forest QB.
Daniels was hurt last year, and still may not get clearance to play this season. It's a strange choice to me, both ways. He might have picked say Duke and been assured of starting right away with a good QB coach at the helm.
-

He was originally committed to Iowa State, flipped to Michigan State, flipped to Ohio State, flipped to Georgia
-
Who is turning down 5 star qbs?
Treating JT Daniels like a 5 star QB is like a college treating a student on academic probation like a National Merit Scholar because that student was a high school valedictorian. Yes Daniels was a 5 star guy, but since then he's built an injury history, couldn't/wouldn't beat out a nearly un-recruited 3 star for his old job, and was probably only starting in the first place because of prep hype.
Pure speculation, but I believe Georgia is bringing in JT Daniels simply because they can. Reminds me of when USC would stock pile QBs like Mitch Mustain more so to keep them away from any potential competition.
-

about to be on his 5th team if he transfers. Crazy. Never trust any player who flips more than once imo.

He is definitely worth bringing in, just because you can never have enough talent or depth at the QB position imo. I would've even been for Michigan bringing him in I think. So long as there was an open competition and no promises made.
But I'm with you for the most part. JT Daniels did not light the world on fire or show that he was going to be anything amazing in his short time at USC. His true frosh year in 2018 was OK for a rookie, but that's it. The guy who replaced him in 2019 after his injuries was a true freshman and he had a WAY better freshman in 2019 than Daniels had in 2018. Not saying he can't become something and develop into a top tier QB, but imo he didn't show any of the flashes as a rookie that say Trevor Lawrence or Justin Fields did. Fields didn't play a ton in 2018, but when he did you saw the obvious talent. Daniels doesn't have the size or raw physical ability of a Fields or Lawrence.
Daniels is 6'1 and change, not the biggest guy and doesn't have the biggest arm but he was known for his accuracy and the crazy winning and stats as a HS recruit. Daniels put up some insane numbers in high school and he played against some of the best HS competition in the country, but he also kind of played on a super team. Mater Dei is loaded every freaking year. The guy played with other 5*'s and 4*'s all over his offense. Even some of the younger back-ups that didn't even start when Daniels was at Mater Dei wound up being 5*'s and 4*'s in the 2019 and 2020 classes.

fearless... it's not a win. I heard going back home due to covid he realized he didn't want to be so far away. This is a loss.
I also heard Francois is thinking about doing the same. If that happens, it would be 2 of UNL's top 3 ranked kids gone from the 2020 class before August.. both at DB.

Yeah, I assumed. I wouldn't be surprised to see more. I'm guessing that's not unrelated to MSU's de-commit, who was also from Miami.

I am surprised Daniels chose UGA, just odd to me.

The Lincoln lad returned home in March, and he plans to stay here for one final season of college football as a Husker.
Jared Bubak announced on Saturday he'll walk on to the Nebraska football program, and plans to begin voluntary workouts with the team on Monday.
He had once been committed to the Huskers five years ago, before deciding to attend Arizona State on scholarship. Set to join Nebraska as a grad transfer,
-
I am surprised Daniels chose UGA, just odd to me.
Yeah, me too. Georgia already got Newman to transfer in. Daniels must really believe he's going to get the waiver and that he can beat out Newman. Daniels already used his Redshirt last year, but because it was due to injury he might be able to get another Redshirt. UGA also has a 5 STARZ QB coming in 2021 in Vandergriff.
Daniels probably could've gotten himself a guaranteed starting spot somewhere else.

I thought you could only get double redshirt for injury?
-
And UGA has a fairly competent fifth year senior QB and Matthis as well, neither of which appear likely to contend for starting. I am guessing Daniels does NOT get a waiver and sits a year and then expects to start after Newman departs. Their incoming 5 star guy might red shirt or transfer obviously.
I guess "we" are assuming some kind of season will happen. I wonder if that played a role in his departure from USC. Can you imagine what could happen if California doesn't allow CFB and others do?
And then we have what could be a surge in infections due to these protests.
-
I thought you could only get double redshirt for injury?
You can sometimes do it with transfer and injury. Granted, it seems like basketball players get that more than football, I assume in part because a sixth year of basketball makes more sense.
-
A former four-star offensive lineman is joining Nebraska as a walk-on.
Ezra Miller announced on social media Wednesday he is transferring to NU, securing his new home after leaving Iowa in January.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pound product of Holstein, Iowa, departed from the Hawkeyes in the offseason because of depression. He signed with the Hawkeyes as the No. 354 overall prospect in the 2019 class and the No. 31 offensive tackle according to the 247Sports composite.
Miller will be with the team when minicamp begins in mid-July.

He was redshirting this year. He was definitely possibility at OT down the line.
He did have a back injury, but also experienced a series of events (see tweet above) that caused some depression and anxiety. He felt he was done playing football, so Iowa worked with him to get a medical disqualification scholarship. He has since had a change of heart about playing, but could not continue at Iowa due to the rules around the medical scholarship.
-
well, good luck to the kid. At UNL and/or otherwise.
I'm about 30 miles from Holstein. I have family and friends there. I play golf there often and purchase meat there from a great locker.
I may know some of his family and have probably bumped into the big guy if he plays golf.
-
No.
Good.
-
talked to a Cyclone fan last night at golf league, big high school football fan. He said he watched Ezra Miller play a few games at Holstein. Said the kid was big and talented, but soft. Took quite a few plays off.
maybe a 2nd chance in Lincoln will spark a fire and be good for the young man

Former Nebraska receiver JD Spielman is transferring to TCU, multiple sources confirmed to HornedFrogBlitz late Saturday night. TCU has been the rumored favorite destination for several weeks.
The big question on every Frog fan's mind is whether or not Spielman will see the field immediately this season. In order to play, Spielman was applying for a waiver to play immediately. There's good news on that front as well as sources also told HFB that Spielman's waiver request to play immediately in 2020 has been granted.
Spielman left Nebraska before spring practices started and Cornhusker fans had known the inevitable transfer was coming.
-
Are there any transfers being denied eligibility these days?
I'm curious why anyone would not get a release to play next year.
-
Freshman Keyshawn Greene, a linebacker who was one of the highest-rated members of the 2020 recruiting class, is entering the transfer portal.

I'm curious why anyone would not get a release to play next year.
I read some rumor they said "Your team not playing in fall isn't a reason" and it froze some folks.
