The object is to think of a CFB Program, and then think of the closest program to it in terms of size, wins, name recognition, stadium size, etc.

The only caveat is that you can’t start with your own team.

I’ll go first.

Texas : Michigan

Both in the top ten of all time, both large state schools in populous states, both have “ recent “ MNC wins as well as having at least one legendary head coach and multiple Heisman winners.

Kansas - North Carolina

Both the flagship state university, both noted far more for basketball than for football, both think very highly of themselves as academic institutions.

There was a time when Nebraska - Oklahoma would have been a good match.
Maybe there will be again.

Honestly I think OU : Alabama. Lots of MNCs in different eras. Lots of Heisman winners.

It might be the closest match, but it's not very close. Alabama has pulled away from the rest of CFB over the past decade.
How about this one? Baylor - Liberty
Private "Christian" schools who have sacrificed everything they supposedly stand for in the pursuit of other gods.
Now a serious one: Texas A&M - Auburn
Both fine programs in their own right, but overshadowed by the "other programs" in their respective states. Auburn even started out as an Ag school.

It would be nice to be compared with Auburn, but they have won at least one MNC in the last 20 years and multiple SEC championships.

I confess I really don’t know much about them but it strikes me that maybe A&M : Wisconsin. Lots of history, not really much winning.

Maybe I'm focusing too much on the schools rather than the football programs.

UCLA - Wisconsin
It seems that UCLA has had higher highs and lower lows than Wisconsin. OTOH, the CFN "Greatest Programs of All-Time"
"Greatest Programs of All-Time" AP Poll-based feature has them ranked at #18 and #22 respectively. That's pretty close.

Quote
Syracuse - Wake Forest
Those two are pretty far apart in terms of success. Syracuse (CFN #47) used to be a very successful program, while Wake Forest (#87T) has been bad for most of its existence.
Quote
Minnesota - Ole Miss
That's a good one. They both were once better than they have been in recent decades, but Ole Miss has had flashes of recent success.
Quote
Virginia - Illinois
A better match of schools than football programs, IMO. Virginia has never had a football program as good as the Fighting Illini in its heyday.

Miami - USC?
V-e-r-r-y interesting.
How about this: SMU - Northwestern?
