You forgot the part about finding employees who will "not steal from you." Which is... not a lot.
We owned a BBQ restaurant throughout my childhood. And the toughest thing to find, was employees that would not just steal from you. They figure a restaurant owner can afford to miss a little here and a little there. Nevermind that restaurant margins are razor thin and always have been. That little here and little there, turns a positive margin into a negative one.
People moan about the current state of things, but it's really no different than it ever was, at least when it comes to finding good employees. We had the exact same problems in the 70s and 80s.
Thieves piss me off. I hired a secretary that was pretty worthless, that I was not happy with anyway, and she gave me the really good reason to fire her--she had worked 17 hours one week, and we discovered that she had put FORTY-THREE on her time app. Made that decision quite easy. Her single-mom sob story also crumbled a bit when she had gastric bypass surgery--which almost freakin' killed her--came to light some time prior.
Anyway, the general public doesn't hear about the thieving issue, but a Papa Murphy's that appeared to be doing pretty brisk business went out 10 years ago due to inability to find help, and the pretty damn good joint here that had fancy pizzas and their own microbrew closed for the same reason. We've lost a KFC, Long Johns/A&W, a beloved ancient fried chicken joint, the Defiance Brewing place mentioned above, all of the Chinese places, all but Billy Sims for Q. And this is in an otherwise thriving small-college town. It's a tough biz no matter--but both arguments are similar--employees suck.
That said, If any of you guys are flush with cash you're getting .00009% interest on, I think a Chick-Fil-A here somewhere close to the interstate would make a killing.
But I just searched, and apparently they require you to have your carcass in the building. Nevermind.
