I am really looking forward to finally getting to see the Dawgs play OU.  I first became aware of Oklahoma back sometime in the late 60's.  OU playing Nebraska was nationally televised every year and it seems like it was always the day after Thanksgiving and the only game on, although memory plays tricks.  As an 8 year old, I thought the Sooner Schooner made OU the best team on the planet.  To finally get you guys and in Pasadena, no less, makes this a special game for me.

Mayfield is terrifying and the Dawgs' best defense is named the UGA running game and 15 play drives.  Good luck Sooners.

Georgia is one of only seven P5 programs we have never played.  (The others are Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Purdue, Rutgers, and South Carolina.)  And, for some reason or other, I'll bet we would have gone a long time before these two scheduled each other.  We don't play many SEC teams in the regular season.  We've played Alabama more than anyone else: three bowl games and a regular-season Home-n-Home.  We haven't played Arkansas outside of bowl games since the 1920s.  We've never scheduled Auburn, just played them twice in bowls.  We've only played Florida once, in the 2008 (season) BCS NCG.  We've played LSU twice in bowls, and have a series scheduled in the 2020s.  We've played a bowl game and a Home-n-Home series with Kentucky.  Ole Miss we've played once, in a bowl game.  We've played Tennessee twice in bowls and one Home-n-Home series.  And we've played Vandy three times in the regular season.  Texas A&M and Mizzou, of course, we have played many times.

It will be good to scratch Georgia off the list.  I hope we get to see a great game in which nobody gets seriously hurt.

Sony Michel is on the verge of a thousand yard season, and he is now #3 all time among running backs at UGA, which is pretty good company.  Number two is his roommate of course, who also is the #2 in the SEC career, despite missing most of his sophomore season with an horrific knee injury.

UGA played in the Rose Bowl 75 years ago (against Cal as I recall).  They claim a disputed (with Ohio State) NC for that year.  They lost to Auburn that year, a mediocre Auburn.  Auburn and Georgia have dealt the sole loss to each other on numerous occasions.

Sanford Stadium has an E/W orientation because it is nestled in a valley in the middle of campus.  It was completed in 1929 using mostly convict labor and hosted Yale for the first game.  It seated 30,000 at that time which was large for CFB.

The season of course started with Jacob Eason at QB, the highly regarded recruit out of Washington who started most games as a freshman when UGA went 8-5 and beat TCU in a minor bowl game.  They did not look very good last season and had a very poor offensive line.  Eason looked like a talented freshman.  Eason of course suffered a knee injury in Game One and was replaced by Jake Fromm (State Farm) who had his first start at Notre Dame and did well enough to claim the starting slot when Eason was healed up.  Eason is a Matt Stafford type while Fromm is more of an Aaron Murray type.

There also of course is Roquan Smith at LB who has had as good a season as I've seen by an LB at UGA, which is a decent group.  He has a real "nose for the ball" and elite speed and might be used to "contain?" Mayfield.

CD, would you say that Auburn is UGa's biggest rival?  I know there are also rivalries with Florida and Tennessee, correct?  It's kind of interesting to me that the Dawgs have a major rivalry with Auburn, but not Alabama, at least according to Dawg fans I know.  Is it because both schools are land grant, or is it something in their history that led to "bad blood", or something else?

I like Sanford, the way it's nestled down in between academic buildings ... it kind of sneaks up on you when you're walking the UGa campus.  Stealthy.  Kind of like once when I was having a burger at the Grill, and looked up and there's Michael Stipe standing in the door way (at least I think it was him - some skinny baldish guy in a fedora like hat leaning up against the door frame like some album cover).  I was told that R.E.M. band members like to be left alone and not treated like celebs in downtown Athens, so I just looked away and kept munching on my burger.

Auburn is a big rival but probably not the biggest, though that depends on the age of the fan.  UGA and Auburn have had a number of epic games through the years, and each has knocked the other from the ranks of the unbeaten numerous times.  Then there is the Vince Dooley and Pat Dye cross over.  Supposedly after the 1980 season, Auburn offered Vince a million dollars (probably over X years) to coach and his kids were dead set against it, which gave the bumper sticker "Some people wouldn't go to Auburn for a million dollars!".

Obviously, Florida is a long term rival and Georgia Tech has been as well.  The latter is not so much for younger Dawg fans.  UGA and Tech have also had some epic games but Tech obviously has not been as consistently good for a while.

UGA and Auburn play every year, while Alabama plays only on the rotation, which means once every 6 years on average.  Yuck.

While Georgia is known as a state with fertile recruiting, you also see a lot of battles for recruits with Auburn and Clemson and FSU.  I looked up the last four years 247 recruiting rankings and UGA holds an edge over OU, though I think that matters little considering Mayfield was a transfer walk on.  UGA has usually recruited at a pretty high level.

I'll be a bit sad when Michel and Chubb graduate, but obviously wish them great success at the next level.  They have some great life stories even aside from football.  Chubb I think is better than many realize, especially if they looked at him before he was injured and then this year again.  When Chubb stepped in for Todd Gurley, I thought Chubb might be better, as a freshman.  Michel is almost the ideal for the NFL in terms of size and assets.

Next should be to get a home and home series with OU.  I know OU fans are very hospitable in reputation.

I was browsing the injury reports, and Baker Mayfield has a pulled groin....listed as probable.... 

He has nearly four weeks to get over it.  Regardless though the Sooners have a really good backup QB, Murray, who will likely have the starting job next fall.

From what little Ive seen of Murray he appears to be more of a run and shoot QB as opposed to Mayfield who is more of a pocket passer
If Murray starts this difference will be a big surprise to the fans IMHO
