Nebbie
« on: September 21, 2017, 05:00:22 PM »
I'm beginning to think that Nebraska has the same entitled expectations as does Texas.  Of course you've just heard that they fired their AD of 5 years.  For what?  Losing.  In Football.

Hmm.  Problem is - When compared to Texas, I'm not sure Nebbie has the same opportunity to right the ship.  And I'm not sure their fan base gets it.

Nebbie's best shot at recruiting was to go south, and supplement with corn-fed Midwestern boys.  And that whole "partial qualifiers" thing didn't hurt either.  But those days are gone.  Now the Huskers sit in the B1G, with little to no southern exposure, and fight to lure athletes to the corn fields and away from Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, etc.

This doesn't look good for Nebraska, and their passionate, but entitled fan base.  In the B1G, Nebraska serves the purpose of the Washington Generals, merely a helmet school to match-up against the aforementioned B1G blue bloods.  And yes, it pays well.  In the Big 12 however, the Huskers were the Globetrotters.  Winning pays well also.

Husker fans are going to need a realignment, or else they will be firing AD's and coaches till the cows come home.  The B1G holds no glory days in its future for Nebraska.  There's no room for it, and Nebbie will never get the players.

This is my first time to post pics here, I'm glad it works.  Or at least it looks like it does, anyway.

Nebraska reminds me of Arkansas.  The Razorbacks once possessed the very unique identity of being one of the best teams in the Southwest Conference.  Then they made the smart decision to join a better conference and promptly became mediocre.  Sentimental old people like me hate to see them so mediocre and think it would be interesting if they could flare up and at least have one really special season, but they just seem to be destined for 7-6 or 8-5 seasons with blue moon 11-3 ceilings.

Say what you will about the conference strength and security.  It's sad to see once proud programs lose their identity.

Imagine all the chicken places banding together to form a coalition to make the same chicken.   No more Bush's Chicken or Popeyes.  Just chicken.

That's what conference realignment gives you.  Ubiquity.

Pretty good analogy I think.  I don't much care about Arkansas anymore, it's just been so long since we played them regularly, but I do wish Nebraska were still good, and that they were still in the B12.

Speaking of chicken, have you tried Gus's?  It's really good.

No, Junior.  I haven't had the pleasure yet. I'll have to check it out.

I work on the Easide now, quite close to Reagan High School so I like to go to either Pollo Regio or Popeyes.  Back home in the LCP, I opt for Golden Chick or Pollo Rico.  If I'm at an LISD football game, I'm probably eating Bush's.

The thing I love about Golden Chick is the fact that they always give you extra tenders.

I love the grilled onion and horchata at Rich Chicken (Pollo Rico).

Popeyes has the whole Easide harmless ghetto charm.  People be yelling and stuff.  They have a $1.49 special on Tuesdays and it's fun to just wade into the agreeable sea of poor people like myself looking for just a little something something.

I tried a Bush's Chicken in Lampasas and quite enjoyed it as far as chicken joints go.

I like the Nebraska / Arkansas comparison.  But another thing that is becoming more apparent to me - that some of you have already bemoaned in the past....  conferences are getting too big!  I used to be all jazzed about the 16 team conference, but now I don't know.

Anything over 12 teams is just too damn many I'm beginning to believe.  I know many SEC fans that would happily give back A&M and Missouri to get back to 12 teams.  Hell, conferences used to be 8 teams.

I find myself hoping that the Big 12 actually survives these days, and that a Nebbie or an Arky will consider coming over.  Once Texas rebounds, and hopefully rebrands itself as a gracious conference member (unlike DeLoss), it's not out of the realm that we couldn't hook back up with more P4 schools.

But for Texas to simply join one of the existing 14 team conferences, I'm not so crazy about right now.

Schlotzsky's sandwiches are like Lay's potato chips for me.  I can't eat just one.
I ate one of their big ass mammer jammer's one time.  You know the sandwich that you're supposed to share?

You can make a passable imitation of a Schlotzskys sandwich at home if you put deli meats and veggies on a toasted English muffin.

The NFL has equal sized divisions structured for a systematic plaoff.

I like the arbitrariness of college football.

I'm a big fan of Schlotzsky's too.  Addictive stuff.
