Yeah, we Okies are all living the life of Walter White. <insert double eye roll>

But huh, Del City, that's interesting.  If Baker wins this tomorrow, that means we're averaging a Heisman about every 5-6 years so far this century.  Might as well keep it local, huh?

Yep.

Would have been a stunner if he hadn't won it, but you never know until the winner's name is called.

Classy post 320 but no surprise as you’re a classy guy.  Thanks amigo.

Btw your snow made its way over here to MD.  A nice 2-3” blanket that’s not sticking on the roads.  My 14 year old had a heckuva fun day with it.

Thanks, 320.  Glad you got some white stuff to throw around.

I understand that Galveston got its first snow since the '90s.  The 1890s.

We got no snow in Tulsa.  High temps in the 20s yesterday, 50s today.

Baker’s acceptance speech:

Sometimes his emotions have gotten him in trouble, but other times they’ve helped rise to greatness.  I think this is a very moving, gracious and heartfelt speech.

i'm glad that is all over.  Hopefully, we'll get back to some actual game coverage.  One thing I noticed in Baker's speech, he said "we have TWO more to go" (emphasis mine).  I hope he is right.

I guess the "Big 12" hasn't been around long enough to include the bulk of the names most important to each member school.  Being the Big 12's most important player ever covers just about 20 years, I guess.

I'd vote for VY but that's more based on what kind of season a guy has and how successful he is, vs. "how important he is."  I don't even know how to measure that.

Just guys from current schools, gimme Barry Sanders.  Without him I wouldn't ever even have known what is a "Big 8."  Some donut shop trying to cheat me out of a baker's dozen, sounds like.

Or....a Baker's 12 as it were.

Baker's BIG twelve.

SWIDT?  It all comes full circle.  I guess he is the most important player.

The point I think Trammel is making is that Baker came along at a critical time for the Big 12, when perceptions of the conference were really low and he and the Sooners are changing that perception.  Between 94-2009, the Big 12 was nationally prominent with Nebraska, OU and Texas winning NCs and several appearances in the NC games.  There were many excellent players but really none were the "face" of the Big 12 the was Baker has been the last few years.

Winning a Heisman with such amazing alltime numbers including beating top ooc teams like Auburn and Ohio State helps, but the key is winning an NC.

The reality is that OU only has a 25% chance of doing that (all things held equal), so it’s still a big lift to get there.  Still that’s what it will take to get the Big 12 back on the map imo.

Somewhere recently I saw (or heard?) something where Tramel was elaborating on the comparison of Baker to Vince Young.  I can't find it now, but he said that VY's 2005 season, culminating in the Rose Bowl win over USC for the MNC was better than what Baker has put up (at least so far).  But he went on to opine that VY's career was less impressive (impactful?) because he wasn't the starter most of his freshman season and then he left after his junior season.

Baker's going to have to have VY-type impact against Georgia and then again against the Bama-Clemson winner to equal or surpass Young's 2005 season, which was an undefeated one.
