This latest apartment I've moved into has obvious long-term water damage, but they don't want to hear it.

The floor by the tub is soft-ish, the inside back backing under the bathroom sink is sunken/bowed, and along the kitchen flooring, it's fraying up along the seams.

I know water damage, but they won't care until my foot goes though the floor or my entire shower/tub falls down into the first-floor bathroom.

Their problem, I guess.

utee, i'm not a big halloween guy. I do enough to keep the kids happy because I do a ton for Christmas and don't want to make it two massive jobs for the year, but dude your setup looks seriously awesome. If I was your neighbor, I purposely wouldn't make an attempt to keep up with that lol

I don't know if you've seen it but there is a place in Wadsworth that does their house up like the Griswold house from Christmas Vacation. Their display is MASSIVE.

One of my favorite parts is that the neighbor has a sign that says "ditto" abd nothing else.

Ha!  Thanks.

It's funny you say that because the whole reason I started, was my next door neighbor.  When we moved in... what... 13 years ago, our first Halloween I noticed him starting to set up stuff in September.  Weekend after weekend, he'd add a new figure here, a new prop there. His theme was Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas, and he made almost everything by hand, very little store-bought stuff.

My setup that year was a couple of cheap "ghouls" made from dollar-store Halloween masks and some sheer black fabric I bought at Walmart, stretched over a few pieces of PVC.

It stayed that way for several years, but I always wanted to complement his theme with a Tim Burton theme of my own, from one of my favorite movies, Beetlejuice.  But I knew that a giant sandworm would need to be the centerpiece, but I had neither the technical expertise, nor the storage space, to create one of my own.  But then finally, about 6 years ago, they finally started making the giant 11' sandworm inflatable.  So I bought one, put it front and center, and then built around it.

I'm still adding stuff each year. I've always wanted to do a Lydia Deetz character but honestly I'm a terrible artist, no way I'd be able to get the face right.  Now with the second movie, I think I might do shrunken-head BOB.  I can buy a mask/head that would work for that, and not have to do any artwork myself.

Oh and you should definitely show us your Christmas setup.

My Christmas setup isn't as big as my Halloween display, although if I had some real inspiration, I wouldn't mind doing it.  I've been changing it every few years.  My most recent display is a handful of homemade pallet-wood Christmas trees and scrapwood snowflakes.  But they're bulky and I don't have a good place to store them, so I'm looking for a new theme this year.

I think I posted my Christmas here before, but here's a pic:

Here's a couple of (bad) pics I took of my neighbor's Nightmare Before Christmas house. The Jack Skellington is 12 feet tall.

That's all pretty awesome. With the kids out of the house, and we're going to be gone on Halloween, we're keeping it very low key this year.

BUT, speaking of DIY home improvement projects, SFIrish crushed it over the last several weekends sanding, priming, doing some wood repair, and painting a bunch of trim that has taken some serious weather damage over the years. Based on the quote she received from a vendor, saved us a bunch of money, and probably paid better attention to the details than they would have. So while she was busting her ass, I dutifully cooked meals and such. :-)

Ha!  It works the other way actually.  Any time my garage door is up and I'm working in the garage or yard, my neighbors know they can come over and grab a beer out of my garage beer fridge.

They all drink swill so I just keep plenty of Bud and High Life on hand, and they stay away from the good stuff.

I'm thinking maybe a Polar Express theme this year.  I'd fashion a 2D one-sided view of the engine and a couple of passenger cars using thin plywood or maybe even foam insulation board, to keep it really light.  Maybe use clear Lexan for the windows and backlight them with LEDs so they shine through?

Problem is, I'm a terrible artist.  I can build anything, but I can't draw or paint worth a darn.  My daughter's a pretty good artist and could probably pull it off, but getting time out of her schedule is very tough these days.
