utee, i'm not a big halloween guy. I do enough to keep the kids happy because I do a ton for Christmas and don't want to make it two massive jobs for the year, but dude your setup looks seriously awesome. If I was your neighbor, I purposely wouldn't make an attempt to keep up with that lol
Ha! Thanks.
It's funny you say that because the whole reason I started, was my next door neighbor. When we moved in... what... 13 years ago, our first Halloween I noticed him starting to set up stuff in September. Weekend after weekend, he'd add a new figure here, a new prop there. His theme was Tim Burton's
Nightmare Before Christmas, and he made almost everything by hand, very little store-bought stuff.
My setup that year was a couple of cheap "ghouls" made from dollar-store Halloween masks and some sheer black fabric I bought at Walmart, stretched over a few pieces of PVC.
It stayed that way for several years, but I always wanted to complement his theme with a Tim Burton theme of my own, from one of my favorite movies,
Beetlejuice. But I knew that a giant sandworm would need to be the centerpiece, but I had neither the technical expertise, nor the storage space, to create one of my own. But then finally, about 6 years ago, they finally started making the giant 11' sandworm inflatable. So I bought one, put it front and center, and then built around it.
I'm still adding stuff each year. I've always wanted to do a Lydia Deetz character but honestly I'm a terrible artist, no way I'd be able to get the face right. Now with the second movie, I think I might do shrunken-head BOB. I can buy a mask/head that would work for that, and not have to do any artwork myself.
