Does Chryst really want this game to come down to Mertz vs Stroud?
It's not a about those two. They will not be on the field together, except or pregame warmups and postgame handshakes.

This game is all about defenses in my opinion. Whichever team does the best job of stopping the run (setting the edges is key here) and getting to the QB will have the advantage.

I think that will be OSU.

There is a lot of chatter than UW's starting LT will not play. Bad stomach virus all week, apparently.

If cannot go, the OL from left to right will likely be:

Nolan Rucci R-Fr
Tyler Beach R-Sr
Joe Tippman R-Jr
Tanner Bortolini R-So
Trey Wedig R-So

Bortolini could also end up at RT. I don't think we will see much of Logan Brown this weekend.

Badger OL needs more hard consonants this year.  Too may vowels there.

Sources: #Badgers will be without starting left tackle Jack Nelson against Ohio State tonight.

Hopefully he suits up

COLUMBUS, Ohio. -- If Wisconsin (2-1) is going to upset No. 3 Ohio State (3-0) on Saturday, they'll have to do without the help of starting left tackle Jack Nelson. Per sources, Nelson is not expected to play against the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Conference opener with an undisclosed injury/illness.

Nelson has started all three games for UW at left tackle this season. An honorable mention All-Big Ten performer as a redshirt freshman, Nelson started and played all 13 games for the Badgers at right guard in 2021.
Sources added that Nelson is likely to be back in the lineup next week when the Badgers return home to face Illinois.
According to Pro Football Focus, Nelson ranks No. 12 among all lineman in college football with a pass blocking grade of 89.4. He hasn't allowed a single pressure and committed just one penalty in 76 pass blocking snaps. Nelson also owns a run blocking grade of 75.3.

This is probably the case now.

Plenty of talent there, obviously. Bortolini might be the best of this bunch though.

2 key contributors out for the Buckeyes tonight:

1) WR Jaxon Smith-Ngiba
2) CB Cam Brown

I think not having Cam Brown is the bigger deal.  They haven't had JSN most of the year anyways and have already adjusted to that.  Losing a starting CB when the other is struggling is rough.  The #3 CB is also out, so depth is pretty thin there.  I'm assuming we'll see JK Johnson play tonight, with some possibility of S Cam Martinez playing some snaps at CB.

I'm a little behind real time but it is 21-0 and Musberger just pointed out that UW has 8 plays.

Didn't see this coming.

And now 11 plays and UW is punting again.

Well, Wisconsin's offense is balanced:

  • 83 yards passing
  • 85 yards rushing

Problem is that Ohio State has almost triple each of those.

I really didn't see this coming. This was the Ohio State I expected going into the season but didn't entirely see the first three games.
