The idea of current schools being pushed out is a possible reality.

There are some really weak members at the right side of the TV graph.

The founding members are safe.
Eh....whoever got Rutgers into the B1G should be given a lifetime supply of women and wine.

I can see the Big Ten going to 24 but not the SEC.  I can't see the SEC expanding out west and I can't see them doubling up in Southern states either except maybe in Florida or take Clemson.

Big Ten
Add ND, UNC, VA, FSU, Wash, Ore, Col, Ariz

SEC
Add NCSU, VT,  Clem,  Miami

After that who does the SEC  take?  Do they take Pitt, Cuse or WV?  Doubt it.  Kansas maybe for basketball. Ariz ST?  Too far away.  SEC stops at 20

The SEC could grow it's footprint into 3 states that make sense (KS, NC, VA).  The other 5 are more likely to come from within that expanded footprint than to take on a WV or NE or far west school.
.
I know the B1G is national and all, but that's not a bad expanse......Chesapeake Bay to Kansas City, down to near San Antone and back over to Disney World.  That's pretty much all they need.

WV might cost itself a meaningful football program due to low academics.  Let's blame it on low population to be polite.

I guess if the SEC takes Kansas,  they might as well take Colorado too.

What happened to Stanford as Notre Dame bait?
I don't think that ship has sailed yet, and I'm not sure there is enough history there to really matter. Maybe??

Notre Dame is the only real piece left on the board.  Since we know that expansion and therefore $$$ are the only goals, the B1G would be crazy not to continue pursuing them.  I don't know whether or not Stanford ACTUALLY helps in that area, but as long as there's a perception that they do, then the Cardinal will remain in play.

A conference that can snag UVA/UNC would do better than one that got ND/Stanford, IMHO.

Competitively, maybe?

Financially?  It's not even close.  Notre Dame moves the needle more than any other school.  Nobody watches UVA or UNC football, heck nobody watches ACC football at all even with FSU, Clemson, and Miami in that conference.

Realignment isn't about competition and it isn't about basketball.  Only football revenue drives it.  That's it.

You get two states added to your cable.

I also "think" ND is a dying brand, and they would "die" faster if they were in a normal conference.  They used to be the program Catholics around the country adored, I think that day is ebbing.  Sure, they have their own TV contract, and it probably is major, but over time?  When I moved the Cincy, the hope of every footballer going to one of the Catholic schools there was an offer from ND, and they took it usually, but later that simply disappeared, top players wanted whatever program would help them go to the NFL, and it became Ohio State more than ND (opinion here).

I also think ND could start having 9-4 and 8-5 kind of seasons in a conference, if that, and allegiances would drift away to a local school.
