So, I'm old, so it's been a while, the 1950s and 1960s for me. My first school did not have air conditioning, aside from open windows. Our TV of course was B&W until about 1968 when we got color, the color was bad, and you had to tweak the antennae any time you changed the channel, by turning a dial. We had two TV stations in Augusta, Atlanta had three, then a UHF station, and PBS. That was Big Time.
The Sunday sports section had photos of big plays in the football game. Otherwise, it was radio. Our first car with AC was a 1965 Chevy Malibu, it had a two speed transmission called Powerglide.
On occasion, Dad would bring home a bucket of KFC, that was Big Time. I had my first pizza when I was 16. I got so bored the summer between 6th and 7th grade I started reading the World Book Encyclopedia, our internet of the day. I got all the way to W. Don't ask me about X-rays or yttrium.
I had a passbook savings account. Every bank paid the same rate of interest, I think it was 4.25%. I got a quarter a week allowance, later the neighbor paid me a dollar to mow his grass.
