What players are sitting out the bowl season?
« on: December 14, 2019, 02:33:02 AM »
I just finished reading an article about the Citrus Bowl and expectation that a good number of Alabama, and some Michigan NFL prospects will sit out the bowl game. The article does not identify even one player who plans to sit out the bowl game.

Unfortunately, sitting out bowl games has become a problem.

What is on the landscape as far as early departures before this post-season.  Iowa's lock NFL prospects, juniors AJ Epenesa and Tristan Wirfs, are expected to play, and then depart after the bowl season.

Are you aware of players skipping the bowl season?

One Dawg who might have said he's playing (a DB).  I would guess Swift (RB) will sit, he's been hurt anyway, and probably an OL (both juniors).  But none have announced that I've seen.  The "good news" is that Brian Herrien (SR) who I see as a very solid RB may get a chance to shine.  He has waited his turn for four years (it never quite came) and deserves a look by someone in the League.

If I was a RB or QB with first round projections, I'm sitting and leaving, especially if I'm dinged up.  Swift didn't have the year many forecast (I blame the OL), and he has some kind of pectoral injury.  I think he should call it a day and hope to be a first rounder.

I'd play for my team, which played for me, all season.

your agent or family members might get in your ear, especially if you come from a situation with very little money

but, if I'm a baller and love the game, I'm strapping it on one last time with my teammates

very possibly most of these kids sitting out haven't sat at home during bowl season - it's a privilege and an honor

I view it more as a business when talking about players who are high draft likely.  CFB is a path to the NFL, nothing more, in many cases.  This is potentially a swing in salary of millions of dollars for them.  For me, some glorified exhibition is not worth the real risk of injury.

If you're going to sit out against Alabama, why didn't ya sit out against Ohio State?

I heard one take that Michigan might have fewer players sit out than if they were playing like Florida or Texas A&M or something, simply because the benefit of having tape against Alabama outweighs the risk of injury.

That's my only question.  I don't really disagree with it, but how are the non CFP bowl games any more of an "exhibition" than a late season game for a team that is already bowl eligible, but eliminated from CFP or CCG contention?

Herrien delivered a tweet at the start of the season that made me roll my eyes in a big way, and I kinda still do at him.

CB C.J. Henderson is sitting out for Florida, but I believe he's the only one.  One thing I do appreciate is that he said the same time he declared for the draft.  No hedging.
