Damn, I just looked it up and the A&M/Ole Miss game was the first of the season for A&M.  And for the record we beat Ole Miss in real life.

Yeah back in the 70s and 80s it was pretty common for Texas college football teams not to begin their season until mid-September.  And at UT at least, pretty much all September games were night games.

My freshman year, 1990, Texas played a road game @Penn State on September 8th, but our first home game wasn't until September 22nd.
