Jury still out: Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, Maryland, Rutgers

Better than their record: Indiana, Purdue, Illinois

The rest are where they are, except Northwestern, which is probably ready for a move to the Ivy League with Stanford.

Jury isn't out on UM, just getting their snaps and making sure no one gets hurt

  • Michigan: Defense looks the part. Still a little unsure what they are bringing offensively.
  • Penn State: Got a road win, but didn't exactly set the world on fire.
  • Ohio State: Played a team with a bad defense that refused to punt, score reflects it. Honestly all three teams have been sporadic offensively and pretty solid defensively.
  • Iowa: The default team. You know they will play some defense.
  • Maryland: I'm never going to trust this team but Taulia looks the part. They will bite somebody.
  • Wisconsin: Maybe? Things getting dicey. They were outgained by Georgia Southern.
  • Rutgers: 3-0 is 3-0.
  • Minnesota: Offensively challenged.
  • Indiana: Same
  • Purdue: Defensively challenged
  • Illinois: Just generally challenged
  • Nebraska: Same
  • Northwestern: Also applies
  • Michigan State: Giving up 713 yards of offense gets you the Honorary Turd of the Week

This is pretty much how I would rank them.  I still think MSU is capable of more.

I'd about rank them the same as well. I think you can legitimately put any of the B1G East's Big 3 at #1. None have separated themselves as a cut above the others imo. Michigan lost any sole claim they had on that top spot with that shitshow of a performance JJ just put on. I'd have kept them as a clear #1 if he had played like he did first two games- efficient and within himself- not forcing throws or hero ball bullshit. But he obviously didn't do that.

I do think they are finally getting the starting 5 OL right with the benching of RT Myles Hinton and kicking LT Karsen Barnhart back out to RT where he started last year and putting transfer portaler LaDarius Henderson at LT. It just looked better. Like OH ok that makes sense. Barnhart is a more natural RT, Henderson is more fluid, athletic, bendy- better equipped to deal with speed at the edge better imo. Hinton looks like a greek god but plays like a woman. He was a 5* 'croot out of HS just because of his body and frame and athleticism....looking like more proof to what I already thought- that OL HS recruit rankings are probably useless. Just hard to predict how an OL will develop- the rankings are just based on them being bigger and better than everyone in HS- and that just ain't gonna be the case at the next level.

I do really like what I've been seeing from the defense. I think they have a chance to be the best Jeem has had yet. Their DT, EDGE, ILB rooms look gnarly. Mikey Sainistril might just be the best nickel in the country, and we haven't even really seen Will Johnson, Rod Moore, and Makari Page yet in the secondary. I think Will has played like 6 snaps thus far and Page played a little bit yesterday night and Moore has yet to play.

Iowa has to be 4th just because of their defense and who the hell else can you put there right now with a straight face, and then after that it's a complete crapshoot.

I am switching the Top 3 around. Illinois was able to keep close for quite a while in their game with Penn State, and then fell apart with turnovers, to the Lion defense's credit. The Lions looked beatable, but I have the Lions ranked above Iowa because Iowa
looks even more beatable than Penn State.
Maryland and Rutgers appear to be competitive.

Sorry to interrupt the B1G power rankings, but this post doesn't warrant its own thread.
The pollsters are dumb.
*I'll preface this with acknowledging that it doesn't actually matter.  But it also shouldn't exist:
23 Tennessee
25 Florida

Now I'm obviously not actually upset about this, but it's stupidity in action.  I'd even posit if this was the year-end poll, the voters would have "corrected" themselves.  But since it's just September, they get to be lazy and stupid.

Both teams are 2-1.  Both have 13-point losses on the road.  Florida's was to Utah, ranked 11th, and thus, is a better loss.
One of Florida's wins is vs ranked Tennessee.  UT's only wins are vs a train wreck UVA and Austin Peay.

They're ranked 2 spots apart, and Florida has the h2h.  So I'm just taking the time to shine a spotlight on the voter's hypocrisy.
Yes, this ranking is basically based on the preseason poll, but why do they get to be so lazy?
Over and out.
