Week 2
« on: September 06, 2021, 08:23:02 PM »
All B1G on Saturday

11 am, ACCN, Illinois at Virginia
Noon, FOX, Oregon at OSU
Noon, BTN, Youngstown State at Michigan State
Noon, ESPNU, Miami (OH) at Minnesota
Noon, BTN, Indiana State at Northwestern
2 pm, ACCN, Rutgers at Syracuse
3 pm, CBSN, Purdue at UConn
3:30, FS1, Ball State at Penn State
3:30, BTN, Buffalo at Nebraska
4:30, ABC, Iowa at ISU
7 pm, FS1, Eastern Michigan at Wisconsin
7:30, BTN, Idaho at Indiana
7:30, BTN, Howard at Maryland
8 pm, ABC, Washington at Michigan

Others:
3:30, Fox, TAMU at Colorado
7 pm, ESPN, Texas at Arkansas

So yeah, not exactly a great slate, though the eyes of the nation will be on the B1G as Iowa/ISU and OSU/Oregon are the premiere games this week. The Michigan-Washington game lost a lot of luster when Washington got bounced by Montana.

Obviously OSU is big.  Otherwise we better win every game, except Illinois.  That's the only one that wouldn't be a black eye loss

Oh you know we're getting a black eye somewhere. The question is from who?

Whichever Pelini is presently coaching Youngstown State cannot wait to give MSU a black eye

The MSU-YSU game would be a lot cooler if Tressel had hired Mark Dantonio after Bo Pelini dipped.

I don't think a Rutgers loss to Syracuse would be all that big of a black eye. The Orange have won each game by at least 20 points.

When a member of your conference flails, you just need to up your excuse game.

Unless we're massively overreacting to Week 1 scores, I can't consider Iowa losing to Iowa State a bad loss. Last I looked, ISU is still favored by 4.

Probably from the Gophers. PJ's teams are notorious slow starters, the back 7 looked as ghastly as I suspected, and no Mo Ibrahim.

Taking on my old Redhawks. They got obliterated by the Bearcats in Week 1.

I don't mind them. My preference for a big game is 3:30, but it felt like they were moving every decent game to prime time, which was really annoying. I love the top games being during the day.

Fox and Disney both, consider their 11 AM timeslot to be the national one, and 2:30 to be the regional one.  So they push almost all of their marquee matchups either to 11 AM, or primetime.

It wasn't always that way, in the late 90s and early 2000s it was the opposite.  11 AM was their regional timeslot and 2:30 PM was the national timeslot.  But they did a lot of market research that showed them they could capture more eyeballs earlier in the day.  It was sometime around 2002/2003 that they decided to reverse those.

It's nothing new which is why I don't understand why the Sooners started freaking out about it so much recently.  Disney and Fox weren't trying to punish them, in fact it's pretty much the opposite.  Their success on the field, producing better ratings, is what pushes them to the national timeslot rather than the regional.

I guess you could hope for more primetime slots, but I'm like Max and I would rather have those during the day.

Well, the Sooners and I agree that we don't give a damn about their market research

the coaches also agree, tough for recruiting kids that played Friday night

Lucky for me the Huskers get a 2:30 kick this Saturday

I get it, but coaches tend to be simple folk, and they're obviously not understanding and therefore discounting the increased exposure they get being broadcast to everyone NOT at the game, with more eyeballs on TV sets at 11/12, compared to 2:30/3:30.

I mean, I get it.  I prefer afternoon kicks over morning kicks too.  But when you join a conference, that has media deals with broadcast partners, part of the money they're paying your school, is to broadcast the games whenever the network feels like it.

In other words, that's what the money is for.
