You could choose not to schedule them and, I presume, you could even refuse to play them in a playoff.  In the playoffs case, I'd assume that means you forfeit, which would knock you out of the playoffs, which can't be the intended goal.  I don't know much about forfeits and what the NCAA and conferences have the capacity to allow.  Can the conferences and whatever body controls the playoffs have some special thing in place that allows schools to blackball Tech without forfeiting?

Could the Big 12 say any school that chooses not to play them in the regular season will not have to forfeit and their final record will just reflect one less game played?  Can the playoffs do anything that would allow a school not to play them?  And how would that even work?

I'd be in favor of it, if so.  This sucks.  Tech has gone full Auburn.

According to that ESPN article, UGA has also directed all its programs not to schedule Texas Tech, in any sport, until further notice.  That's probably not a big deal since UGA probably rarely ever schedules Tech, and Tech doesn't really care what UGA does.

But I wonder if the other Big 12 schools can boot Tech from the B12 if they don't move on this.  Force them to be independent and refuse to play them.  Suppose this stands, the the judge's rule is law, fine, they can't force ineligibility on Sorsby.  But that doesn't mean they have to keep Texas Tech in the conference.

I'd imagine there are very specific bylaws about kicking out a conference member.

And since at this point that comes with a billion-dollar-plus impact to a member school's future revenues, I'd also imagine there's going to be an extremely large lawsuit if/when such an article were ever invoked.

I've seen posts on X that other Big 12 AD's are looking at all options, including booting them out (Stewart Mandel and Pete Thamiel for reference, not some unknown jackwad).

I think that there is a line in the sand when it comes to stuff like this, and Tech has crossed it.

I'd assume that the conference contracts are written in such a way that the conference is required to provide each university an athletic schedule from within the conference, in all sports covered by conference participation.

So either way, it's a billion dollar lawsuit.

Seems like there should be some recourse for when a school does something like this.

I've never quite known how I feel about the NCAA because they haven't always managed things well.  But stuff like this was kinda the point of their existence, to enforce rules pertaining to stuff exactly like this.  Since the courts have basically declared the Emperor has no clothes, feels like we're more in the Wild West than ever.

Some judges shouldn't be judges
That was demonstrated in living color this morning, at the 12:07 pm ruling issued by one such abomination.
