So, what you're getting at is that the US should have stayed out of WWI?

Not really, it's just musing as to what might have happened.  The US did impact the outcome, but might not have been pivotal.  France might have held out in 2018 with the BEF because the Germans were so short of supplies.  But it is a plausible scenario that the US did not enter and Germany took so much land that France sued for peace.

So, AI seemed to miss my point about Germans winning WW One, entirely, which in part was, a German win avoids Nazism, I think.
Obviously.

My overall opinion is that Germany in WW One wasn't overly heinous, aggressive militarily, yes, throwing their weight around, yes, but no worse overall than France or GB.  They did invade neutral Belgium which was the red line for the Brits.  They were nowhere near as evil as the Nazis.  So, avoiding Naziism at the cost of a more powerful Germany in Europe?

Probably a good trade.

There's a least a solid argument that Communist Russia wouldn't have survived even the Russian civil war, let alone the several catastrophes that came through the late 20s and 30s. What would have replaced it, and what that would have meant for global stability is anyone's guess.

Avoiding Naziism and Communism? That sounds like a very good trade.

Germany likely would have still aligned with Japan, but probably more directly against Russia--unless through support in the Russian civil war, Germany became a good friend of the non-Communist Russian government. Maybe Germany and Japan would not have found common cause? Russia would still have meddled in China, but as it was, Russia supported Chiang Kai-Shek, not Mao (weird, but true), so how would that have been different? Perhaps in how Russia approached its likely inevitable border disputes with Japan?

Or would Germany have decided that a weakened Russia couldn't hold Ukraine, but Germany could? Not knowing much about it, I suspect Russia would have been even more worried about an in-tact German empire, likely meaning it would spend less capital in China and fighting the Japanese. Japan may well have taken much more in China as a result. Could that have stemmed Mao's takeover?

But nationalism was coming, like it or not. The empires were reaching the end of days. Would the Germans, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottomans have continued on for much longer? Not likely.

And it's all anyone's guess.

Many complaints about football stem from people not really understanding football, but it’s ultimately OK because that’s part of the experience.

Like many people get joy from being mad about something that doesn’t make any sense. And that’s just how we consume it.

I think the comment about nationalism "defeated" the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires is very likely true.  I hadn't thought before about how a German W would have changed the middle east.  Oil was clearly becoming a hot commodity. Maybe Germany colonizes that region instead of GB and France.  There would be no Balfour Declaration for one thing.  There would be no Poland.  The Ottomans would have been on the winning side, probably without much benefit but they would have persisted longer.  Kinda fun to guess about.

This is one of the best National Championship Games of all time.

I was heavily rooting for Auburn.

The fallout from the end of World War I is more responsible for the current state of world affairs than most realize.

Me too.

But that would have been THE worst defense of any national champ, ever.
Plus the lucky bounce to beat UGA.
Plus the kick-6 to beat Bama.
I get 'better lucky than good,' but at least be good if you're lucky.

I hated the last play of the game, where FSU won by simply throwing to the tall guy.
