Unpopular opinion:  Alfred Hitchcock sucks.  They literally never show his movies on any mainstream channel, and nobody under the age of 60 even really know what all his movies are.  The only one I can name is Psycho.  Meanwhile I have seen a lot of other movies from that era and they get played on TV all the time.
His weekly tv show was very good
I havent looked but there are probably some on some streaming channel
if so you should try looking at one
They won't let me give blood anymore. The burnt orange color scares the hell out of the doctors.

I'm not much of a fan of Hitchcock movies.

I watched "In Harm's Way" last night, first time in ages.  Pretty remarkable effort I though, major stars, interesting film, completely ahistorical.

I think his plots are too slow to develop, I realize that is part of the tension, but I get bored easily.

Definitely an older kind of movie for sure. (although perhaps the movie I mentioned had a solution for that)

I couldn't really give you an opinion about Hitchcock films, because they're almost never played.  I've seen very few.

They weren't on TV in the 80's, 90's, and they're not on now.  I'm not being literal, because I know well that they were played, but what I'm trying to convey is that for whatever reason, they never really seemed to gain any traction beyond the decade they were made in.  The older they get, the less appealing they get.

I'm of the impression that Hitchcock was in his peak in the 60's (I could be wrong).  60's movies were shown all the time in the 80's and 90's.  The only one I even remotely remember still being popular was Psycho.  Never seen any others.

The others that I think are often mentioned are Rear Window, Vertigo, North by Northwest, Notorious, and you would probably recognize the names of several others (Dial M for Murder, To Catch a Thief...)

They tend to plod, then have very quick resolutions or changes in the plot, but I think that's typical of movies from that time frame. Curiously, Psycho is one I haven't seen. I should remedy that.

I did like To Catch a Thief quite a bit.  It didn't seem to lag for the first part, to me, and Grace Kelly was, well, you know.

I might have her as the most overall attractive movie star of all time.  She had difficulties in life though.

Never seen any of them.  I've always heard how good they are, but again....if they're never on TV, how good can they be?

I may be just fulfilling my own bias because maybe they've been on TV and I simply chose to pass.

I guess it just depends on what your definition of "on TV" is.  Because there are usually quite a few Hitchcock programs available on the streaming services.

  • Netflix: Psycho, Vertigo, Rear Window, Frenzy, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Family Plot, and The Birds.

  • Amazon Prime (US): Rope, The Birds, Rear Window, Vertigo, and Psycho.

  • Tubi: The 39 Steps, The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Foreign Correspondent, Young and Innocent, Sabotage, Strangers on a Train, North By Northwest, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

  • Peacock: Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

I was referring to broadcast TV like we had in the 80's and 90's.  I watched a lot of TV shows and movies when I was younger including things on cable and I just simply never caught any of the Hitchcock flicks except maybe Psycho and I really wasn't all that impressed with it.

Ah I see, you're saying "back in the day" it doesn't seem to have been on much.

I can't really comment on the veracity of that, I guess I too don't recall stumbling across a lot of it but also I've typically sought out any Hitchcock I've ever watched.  Which, as a theater/drama kid, was quite a bit actually.

I mostly like Hitchcock but they're certainly films from a different era and I can understand why people might not get into them.
