I feel (and this is very common in NYC region)  that Chicagoans (and maybe I'm biased as i listen WBBM traffic on the 8s and can freehand a Chicago 'expressway' map I've driven through/around it so many times) when I cruise through, use the 'Named' moniker of the road more than using any other type of term of art.  (e.g.  Dan Ryan, Bishop Ford, Kennedy, Edens, Eisenhower, tri-state, etc.).  About the only one that gets called out by number 100% of the time is 'Eighty-Ninety-Four'  which is probably my most hated stretch of road in America.
Jane Adams (90 toll), the Reagan (88 toll), the Elgin-O'Hare (390 toll), Tri-State (294 toll).

I very rarely heard 355 toll called by its name - Veterans.

I remembering confused awhile back when I started hearing WBBM say 'twenty minutes from the junction to the Jane Byrne'.....

What?  What happened to the Circle?  Who the F is Jane Byrne.  Where is this?  Then I saw the tiny little sign at the 'Circle'.

Jane Byrne was the mayor after Michael Bilandic. He didn't last long after Boss Dayley died.

We always called 355 the North-South and 88 the East-West.

As did I, back in the day, when I helped build 355 and did a lot of expansion on 88.

I-88 used to be Illinois 5, if you recall. It became an interstate somewhere around 2000 or so and was re-named the Reagan.

The Jane Adams (90) used to be called the Northwest Tollway.

Recently the stretch of I-55 from 294 to Pontiac was renamed to Barack Obama Presidential Expressway.

I-55 from 294 to downtown is the Stevenson.

I-88 has been I-88 as long as I can remember.

According to Wikipedia it happened in 1987, when I would have been 9 years old. Which is probably about the age I started paying close enough attention to remember...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_88_(Illinois)#Redesignation_to_Interstate_88

It goes on to say it was renamed the Reagan in 2004.

Memory fades a little. Pretty sure the I-88 signs weren't posted until a few/several years later after it became designated as an interstate.

I was designed to be one but did not have that status so the speed limit could not be more than 55.

I was close on the Reagan rename at least.

I'm planning a flight to Boston on October 17th, 18th or 19th, then a drive up the coast to Acadia National Park in Maine

better to buy plane tickets now or wait?  Better to fly Saturday/Sunday or Monday????

any other tips are welcome - visited Boston back in the 90s, never been to Maine

Fly into Portsmouth, NH (if you can) and make it easy on yourself.

the Brother in laws might not think it's easier to pick me up 90 miles away from the western suburbs of Boston where they live
but, I'll ask 'em

probably OMA - Omaha
- could be Sioux Falls or Sioux City - long shot would be Des Moines

I could drive to Minneapolis and take the same flight as the daughter but,............ 4 & 1/2 hour drive
