Actually, they were watching some fancy clock thing going around and around, it was kind of stupid I thought.

My wife just booked us to Amsterdam for ten days in June.  I think that was a movie, or May, or something.

Uhh... no.  Of course not.  Why would you even ask me such an insulting question?
just poking the bear,it's friday after all and hey even I found an IPA or two that are approachable

Everybody knows about Czech pilz beers,In fact the very best Czech pilz style beer made in America, comes from the Live Oak Brewery.
If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong

We were there for almost a week.  We drank ALL the beers.

I liked Amsterdam.  I'm not sure it warrants 2 weeks, I'd seen about all I needed to in a couple of days.  But there are a lot of great towns nearby in the countryside of both the Netherlands and Belgium where you could get lost for weeks.

Germany too, of course, but it has a different feel to it.

For sure.

The funny thing, to me, is the range in prices for the same basic service, we're flying out through MSP and back direct, to fly direct both ways would cost over half again as much.  Some other one stop options were also much more, and selecting the correct days had a similar savings.

The tickets were $2880 each for "premium" on Delta/KLM.  Some options were over $5 K each if you pick a day or three later or earlier.

Now to get a hotel.  This is a ten day journey.

This is right next to Centraal Station. We loved our stay there. Easy train ride from the airport too. You will not need a car.

only been to Amsterdam once, but did not like it. It was so crowded, wall to wall people, bikes, etc.  Only time I didn't feel claustrophobic was when I took a cruise through the canals. Going to be there for a day in August we will see if I like it any better.

August is peak season there. May as well be in Florida in March.

Yeah the first time I went I stayed at the Park Plaza Victoria Hotel which is directly across from the train station.  Easy access to everything, right in the city center. It's not a super-luxurious 6-star or anything, I think it's technically 4-star, but I really liked its 18th century architecture and of course its central location.

The drawback to being that close to the train station was that it's pretty busy and crowded right there in the city center.  If you move a mile or so out of that, outside of the innermost canals, you can get into some quieter neighborhoods with more leafy green tree-lined canals and roads, but still plenty of restaurants and bars and still close enough to walk to anything you want.

That's where I stayed the second time I went, it was a smaller hotel situated outside of that most busy section, upon the recommendation of my local field office guys, but can't for the life of me remember the name or exact location.  A little research and I think it was in the neighborhood called "Grachtengordel" which means "canal belt."

Looks like this:

That town is so damn cool. Now I want to go back.

We are taking Azamara from Miami to Lisbon in March/April so maybe on that trip. It's pre-"season" there so it won't be jammed with people. Cruise stops in Bermuda and Azores on the way to Lisbon.

I'm gonna give Portugal a second chance on the food.

Maybe...
