There are very few ways in which I am not a nerd.  My nerd credentials are stronger than pretty much every single person I've ever known or encountered.

We're off to Vienna Tuesday for two weeks.  We've been looking at some youtube videos and a friend loaned a Rick Steve's book.  I have tours scheduled the first week, one is an all day private tour the third day to get a better feel for the place, hopefully.  We did this in Tokyo and Seoul and had a great experience.

I checked prices from here to Spain in July, Holy Moly, $3K for comfort.  I'm more used to around $1.3K to Europe, but we don't usually go in July and August.

Vienna will be on the cool side for us, into the 40s at night some, 60s in the day.  I was able to use points for the entire stay at a Hilton.  It's not the perfect location but was a lot cheaper than the "downtown" Hilton and it's on the river.

We should have a thread for nerd credentials.  It'd be interesting to know what rabbit holes folks here have spent a lot of time on, either professionally or just hobbies and interests.

Kinda funny, I was a "nerd" in HS, but also an athlete (both bballs).  So, I didn't quite fit in anywhere, which was fine with me.

They had this thing called "Key Club", which to me looked pretty pointless, but they had a very public initiation during school, and it comprised folks doing some pretty unpleasant things, like pushing a brick down the hall with your nose and wiping toilet water (used) on your cheeks.  I was invited my senior year, which meant I'd get initiated but not be able to initiate (not that I wanted to), I declined.  The coach who was head of it tried to talk me into it.  I declined.  I don't think they DID anything of use, it was akin to Latin Club, but the dudes in it were the popular dudes, mostly, all athletes.  I have taken the Groucho mantra to heart.

I was on the Annual Staff as a photographer, which was actually pretty fun.  I shot Tri X Pan and developed it in the back of the physics lab.

I witnessed a lot of guys joining fraternities at UGA of course, even went to one "rush" and say and drank their beer.  My cousin joined one.  At least there was an ostensible benefit in that.

I'm not a Yankee.

I'm not retired.

Anything else?

:96:
Grew up and spent the first 1st 65 years of my life in East Tn and SE Ky. Moved to NEPA to be able to help my MIL out. The people here in coal country are just like those I grow up with except they talk funny and sometimes eat strange foods. Salt of the Earth.

Same is true in the country of NY.

The big cities like NYC, Philly etc are a different story.

I have heard them refer to people from the bi cities as Yankees, damn Yankees and worse.

There are good people all over the US and even some in the big cities but most folks from outside the big cites have very little difference in their beliefs and values
President Harry S. Truman said: “The fundamental basis of this nation’s laws was given to Moses on the Mount.  The fundamental basis of our Bill of Rights comes from the teachings…  If we don't have the proper fundamental moral background, we will finally wind up with a totalitarian government which does not believe in rights for anybody except the state.

This explains a lot.

I was cool with every clique in HS.  Was on the football team and was equally nerdy about knowing football (and all 3 major sports teams).  Had smart friends in honors and AP classes.  Friends in my inner-circle were in band, drama, and drafting.

Now my nerdom is a hobby-turned-tiny business.

Knowing football and being decent with the math to have it make sense is nice.  I had almost zero experience with the sports board-game industry at all.  I just knew that Strat-o-Matic and APBA were way too in-depth for my liking.  I don't want to play a game for fun in 3+ hours....I'd rather just watch an actual game.
Shortening the game experience while incorporating 98% of outcomes is more my speed.

I sent your site to friends who are board game junkies (and one of them professes to be interested in CFB). If you got any orders between October and now from Los Angeles, it might be them.

Granted, they're more bark than bite, so they probably have done nothing. But I tried...

I’m on an Air France 777 with a ton of empty seats.  We’re in premium but I moved to an exit row.  My wife made friends with the FA so now I’m getting wine from up front.  My wife can charm the shoes off a horse.

Now I’m getting snacks from the first class section.  I have not seen a plane this empty in years.   Heading to CDG then Vienna.

I think a lot of folks missed their connections.  The FA said they expected 19 empty seats but have 63.

I was musing about those.  My dad liked them.  They are pretty gross.
