Probably. From Chicago it was 9 hours going and 7.5 coming back. Jetstream.
I just checked--it's about 5:20 there, and 5 hours back from/to SFO. Just feels longer coming home. :-)

That's my take on Oahu as well. It's a big city on a beach. For someone living where I do, it's basically like all the same stuff we have here, but it's a long flight and expensive hotel stay for the things I can drive to here.

I think for people escaping places with trash weather, or whose biggest body of water in the near vicinity is a lake or river, Oahu is nice. Waikiki is very "resort" feeling, there are a lot of places to eat and things to do, all within walking distance of your hotel. So I get the draw for many people, but as someone already living in SoCal, I prefer the places that are more of a change of pace.
I'd fly there to have lunch at the best sushi place I've ever been to.

For us, it's 4 hours or so to LAX usually and then 6 hours to Kona.  We're going through SLC this time.

A nice thing about where we stay is that it "never" rains, well, about two days a year.  I've seen it rain there, and of course a blizzard on the mountain.  This is from a few years back when it didn't snow on us.

If this Honolulu trip for my wife's friend doesn't happen for whatever reason, we're thinking about pivoting and going to Japan instead... I would hope that they've got some good sushi there :57:

I missed trying sushi in Japan, and Korea.  Never got to it.  They had a sushi bar on the ship we never tried.  Reason to go back.

We've tried a number of sushi places around here that get "high ratings", etc., but we get almost as good, if not as good, at our local Kroger.  That basically shut down going to sushi restaurants.
